On September 2nd, IIIM COPE community, in collaboration with Mpower – Aditya Birla Education Trust, organized an insightful workshop titled “Brave Talk.” The resource person, Ms. Aparna Joshi, Executive–Outreach and Content engaged participants in understanding the importance of meaningful conversations to support peers who may be going through challenges.
Ms. Joshi introduced the concept of Brave Talk in an interactive manner and emphasized how open, empathetic conversations can create a safe environment for those in distress. She referred to Maybelline New York’s initiative — “Brave Together” and connected it with a story of friendship, making the idea both relatable and impactful.
A key highlight of the session was the introduction of the BRAVE framework:
B – Be Present: Trust your instincts when something feels off.
R – Right Setting: Choose the appropriate time and place to initiate a conversation.
A – Ask Questions: Share observations and ask with care.
V – Validate Feelings: Listen deeply and show genuine support.
E – Encourage Action: Share resources and guide peers towards professional help when needed.
The session concluded with the powerful message that Brave Talk is about recognizing signs of distress, showing empathy, and supporting peers with compassion and courage. Participants left the session empowered with practical tools to create safe spaces for dialogue and to stand as pillars of support for those in need.
