Day 2 of Parichaya – 2025
The second day of Parichaya – 2025 began on an inspiring note with an early morning session by Professor Manju Nair. She acquainted the students with the culture, systems, and values of IIIM, laying special emphasis on Integrity, Excellence, and Innovation as the guiding pillars of personal and professional life. Her words helped the students realize that these values are not only institutional benchmarks but also personal virtues that can anchor one’s journey in academics and beyond.
The day progressed with a thought-provoking guest lecture by Major General Alok Mathur (Sir), Param Vishisth Seva Medal, AtiVishisth Seva Medal, Veteran Indian Army and Chairman of the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB). In his deeply enriching session, Sir highlighted the significance of having a philosophy in life—stressing that it is not necessary to follow a long list of rules, but rather to hold strong belief in one or two principles that can guide one toward a meaningful life. He eloquently drew distinctions between managers and leaders, noting that while managers may rely on authority, rules, and incentives, true leaders are vision-driven, people-oriented, and committed to collective wisdom. Drawing on examples from the Army, he emphasized how passion, perseverance, and training can make even the most catastrophic situations winnable. Sir further underlined that training in professional courses must focus on enhancing soft skills, since nearly 80% of success depends on them.
He elaborated on the need for leaders to assess the turbulent business environment with a global perspective, stressing that business today is complex and requires adaptability. He illustrated how, through his leadership at RSSB, biometric systems and face detection were introduced to stop fraudulent practices—examples of how visionary leadership creates lasting change. For him, leadership was about creating teams based on skills, empowering individuals to realize their potential, placing the right person in the right role, and always leading from the front. He concluded by reminding students that mind mapping is the key to success, and that leadership is essentially about mentoring, guiding, and building confidence in others.
Following this session, another guest lecture was organized by Mr. Agnelo Dais, GM, Market Development, Business Standard. He spoke on Industry Expectations from Future Managers and Technologists and introduced students to the ten most desired skills of the modern workplace—complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people management, coordination, emotional intelligence, decision-making, service orientation, negotiation, and cognitive flexibility. He also differentiated between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset, encouraging students to adopt the former for long-term success in their professional journeys.
The day continued with a highly informative session by Ms. Sarita Sharma, Manager, TCSion, who introduced students to the Gateway to TCSion National Qualifier Test. She explained the structure and significance of this test, highlighting how it serves as a vital opportunity for students to showcase their skills and secure placements with reputed organizations. The session proved to be a practical guide for students preparing to enter the corporate world.
The day concluded on a lighter and joyous note with an engaging performance by MBA seniors, Mr. Nishant Sharma and Mr. Abhishek Kumar. Their soulful singing and melodious guitar created a warm, cheerful atmosphere, leaving students with happy memories of Day 2 of Parichaya – 2025. The session, held under the aegis of COPE – the Mpower Initiative, was aptly titled “Connecting the Chord”, blending music, wellness, and togetherness in a way that perfectly rounded off the day.
The sessions of the day, marked by value orientation, leadership insights, industry guidance, and cultural vibrancy, together provided students with a holistic experience, setting the tone for the rest of the orientation program.
Day 3 of Parichaya – 2025 unfolded with great enthusiasm, offering a blend of energy, academic orientation, and futuristic insights for the new batch of students. The morning began with a highly engaging Zumba session conducted by Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Zumba Instructor at Anti Matter Fitness Studio and a proud alumna of IIIM. Through her interactive fitness routine, she not only encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly but also helped them realize the vital role of physical exercise and fitness in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and coping with the demands of academic rigor.
Following this energetic start, Professor Kavaldeep Dixit, Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Management, guided the students through an academic orientation. In her detailed address, she familiarized the freshers with the structure and functioning of the department, including the number of theory and practical papers spread over two years of study, the range of subjects covered in the first year, and the opportunities available through dual specialization. She also introduced students to the value-added courses designed to enhance their learning, the system of internal and external assessments, and the key events of the department such as club activities, academic presentations, and expert sessions. Professor Dixit further highlighted the valuable interactions students can expect with eminent resource persons visiting the institute, thereby underscoring the holistic development opportunities awaiting them.
The final session of the day was conducted by Mr. Zuber Khan, who spoke on the thought-provoking theme “The AI-Powered Future: Building Skills for Business & Technology Leaders.” He emphasized the paradigm shift that artificial intelligence is bringing into the professional world, drawing on the analogy of “Data as the new oil” and “AI as the new electricity.” Through his talk, Mr. Khan shed light on the importance of collaboration between human capabilities and AI-driven tools, urging students to embrace technology as an enabler rather than a disruptor. He also suggested a range of essential AI skills that budding managers and technocrats must develop in order to thrive in the evolving business and technological landscape.
