Education Renaissance is the need of the hour!
5th L.N. Birla Inter-Institute Debate Competition organized at
India International School, Jaipur

‘Is education in India the only commodity we all are willing to pay for and get nothing in return? or education is the very factor which has changed us from being a two legged animal to a potential human being who can represent the country at the global level?’ The 5th L.N. Birla Inter-Institute Debate Competition came to halt with several such blazing notions to think upon.  

India International School played host to the debate organized jointly by Birla High School, Kolkata and Rotary Club Jaipur Round Town. The preliminary round of the debate for the state of Rajasthan held at India International Institute of Management Auditorium witnessed an active participation from 7 schools and two colleges from the state. The topic selected for the preliminary round was “Indian education system fails to educate”.

Ruhi Ahluwalia of International College for Girls, Jaipur and Harshita Jodha of Modi School, Laxmangarh have been selected to represent the state at the finals to be held on 10th December, 2004 in Kolkata. Modi School Laxmangarh received the winners trophy and India International School, Jaipur stood runners-up in the school’s category. In the college category International College for Girls was declared as the winner. Harshita Jodha, Modi School, Laxmangarh was judged as the best speaker for the motion and Nipun Nayyar, IIS, Jaipur was judged as the best speaker for against the motion.

The Chief Guest of the event Dr. Ashok Singhvi, IAS, Transport Commissioner, Rajasthan awarded the winners and appreciated the thoughts put forward by the young students. The Judges Panel included Sh. Ajay Kala, Past District Governor-Rotary, Dr. Arvind Kalia, Management Guru and Ms. Richa Khoda, I.R.S., Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax.

The event concluded on a blissful note that a considerate balance between the theoretical and practical education can only ensure the triumph of our education system in a true sense. The system might not be flawless but it is the positivity of the approach of the students which matters the most.

The Chairperson of the event, Ms. Sharmila Bose, Principal, Birla High School, Kolkata conducted the debate in a very interesting manner which was highly appreciated by one and all. Ms. Rita Bibra, Secretary, Vidya Mandir Society, Kolkata welcomed the guests and explained about the rules and regulations concerning the debate. The principal of the host school Dr. Ashok Gupta thanked all the guests and participants for contributing to the success of the event.
