The CBSE National Handball, Taekwondo and Tennis Championship was organized from 19th to 23rd November, 2007 in Jaipur, Rajasthan.  Dr. Ashok Gupta, Principal, India International School, Jaipur was the Chairperson of the Joint Organising Committee.

The championship was inaugurated on 19th November, 2007 in the Sports Complex of the University of Rajasthan by Shri Ashok Ganguly, Chairman, CBSE.  The highlight of the opening ceremony was a cultural programme put up  by the students of the India International School.  The students presented a beautifully choreographed and synchronized dance, set to the variants of the National Song ‘Vande Matram’, show casing ‘Unity in Diversity’, a perfect beginning to an event which brought together the youth from all over the country and the CBSE schools abroad.

In his address, Shri Ashok Ganguly urged the young participants to play with a healthy sportsman spirit and with the conviction that participating is more important than winning.  He expressed his happiness at the large number of participants and said that in future school Olympics would also be organized. 

He congratulated the host schools for playing a constructive role in organizing the event.  Principal Dr. Ashok Gupta formally welcomed all the guests and the participating schools.

The Handball Championship had around 446 participants of 38 teams from all over the Country.

Under 14Yrs. Girls 

I Position       :           St. Xaviers Sr. Sec. School, Bathinda, Punjab

II Position      :           Dehradun Public School, Govindpuram, Ghaziabad (UP)

III Position     :           Dehradun Public School, Sanjay Nagar, Ghaziabad (UP)

IV Position    :           BEL School (CBSE), Jalahalli, Bangalore

 

The closing and prize distribution ceremony was held on 23rd November, 2007 at 12:15 p.m. at Maheshwari Girls Public School, Jaipur.

The eminent guests were Shri Yunus Khan, Sports, Transport and Youth Affairs Minister, Govt. of Rajasthan, Shri Vineet Joshi, Secretary Central Board of Secondary Education and Shri Harish Kumar, President Taekwondo Federation of India.

Shri Yunus Khan awarded the winners in the Prize Distribution Ceremony.  He stated in his speech that in today’s world games and sports hold as important a place as academics.
