IBM Workshop 

On November1, 2007, IIIM organized a day long workshop for the budding technocrats. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Vikas Manoria, IBM Academic Initiative and Technical Head, North & East Zone .Sir, initiated the session with a film on “Success’. 

Mr. Vikas with his rich experience in the field of IT enlightened students with the significance of Project Development. Sir also elucidated the various strategies for the project development.

He also introduced the new Emerging Technological Innovation from Microsoft to the students.

Mr. Manoria also briefed about technologies like WSAD, DB2 for the development of project and laid emphasis to work with industrial standards. 

He discussed and interacted with students on the various current and future prerequisite of information technology world.


November1, 2007, International School of Informatics & Management, Jaipur had a highly enriching session with Ms. Sunita Singh on “Entrepreneurship Skills Development”. Mr. Sharad Kamra a renowned personality in field of Entrepreneurship and NEN Consultant was also present on this occasion.

Ms. Sunita in her session stressed upon the Five essential qualities which every businessman must have: Vision, Commitment, Dignity, Respect and Integrity.

 Her lecture was followed by a film on various successful entrepreneurs elucidating the essential skills to be a successful businessman.

Mam with the help of well framed questionnaires helped participants in judging there own Entrepreneurial Skills. 

At the end of the session, Ms. Shared shared real life experiences to drive home with the idea.


October30, 2007, Major Amit Sharma, Manager Human Resource, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Limited delivered a thought provoking lecture on ‘Body Language’. Sir is a graduate from IIM Lucknow and has expertise in strategic human resource.

He delivered an extensive and comprehensive discourse on the rudiment of corporate behaviour attitude and etiquettes. 

Mr. Sharma offered numerous practical tips for developing the right attitude and inculcating effective approach to work. 

Particularly emphasizing the importance of etiquettes, he discussed body language, dressing sense and interview tips. He gave a live demonstration to show various body position, and there significance. 

Since all the students who attended the session would be appearing for placement interview in the near future, Mr. Amit gave them various handy suggestions to improve their pronunciation, communication, dressing sense, body language and attitude. 

The session was well appreciated and the students enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker.


February 27, 2007, International School of Informatics & Management, Jaipur had a highly enriching session with Mr. Kajuhiko Ueda, Principal, UNITAS Japanese Language School. Professor SomDev, Dept. of Economic Administration and Financial Management, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur was also present on this occasion.

Mr. Ueda emphasized on enhancing the relationship between India and Japan by student exchange programs between the countries. Sir also briefed about the Japanese culture, language and higher education prospects in Japan. There are about 500 universities in Japan out of which 50 are national universities. Mr. Ueda also discussed in brief the financial assistance, visa facilities and work permission given by the Japanese government to the deserving students.

Mr. Kajuhiko welcomed the inquisitive students to ask queries and explained the prospects for Indians in Japan with respect to entering the universities and the corporate sector. Sir described cultural and education exchange programmes pivotal to strengthening the ties between the two countries.


February 26, 2007 IIIM had the privilege of hosting the grand presence of award winning performer Mr. Jeffrey Krieger, chamber musician, Solo Recitalist and specialist in the performance of new music in association with Embassy of United States of America.
Mr. Krieger plays the more conventional looking ‘cello’ as principal cellest of the Hartpord Symphony Orchestra. Sir has incorporated technology – computer and video to his music to create a diaspora of excellence. There were no prerecorded sounds and the music was spontaneous.

Sir gave a live performance and enriched the audience with his musical rendering. His rendition consisted of three pieces- in Connecticut Naturalism, shadows and light and the Land Mine which epitomized serenity, emotional complexity and crisis as an incredible experience.

Mr. Jeffrey Krieger had an interactive session answering to the queries of the audience. Sir ended on a high note mesmerizing the audience. It was an innovation blended with symphony.


"The Role of Corporate Sector in Accelerating Economic Growth in India", keeping this as a vision Prof B.B. Bhattacharya, Vice Chancellor, JNU, elucidated Management students from all over the country on Globalisation with special reference to India in the current competitive scenario.

Prof. Bhattacharya, termed India a reluctant entrant in the global trade due to historic reasons and gave the examples of suppression of globalisation by pre and post independence administration in the country.

He coined customer "the king" in this world of globalisation where customer gets the best at an economical price. Citing the economic reforms that have been made in the past decade he gave strong reasons for continuing with the same. But at the same time he cautioned that the small scale and cottage industries must be protected by the government. He emphatically advocated globalisation and advised the future managers to change and adapt to the ever increasing and changing demands of the corporate sector. His command over the subject and oratory skills are mesmerized.

The session was well appreciated and the students enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker


International School of Informatics & Management, Jaipur   organized a guest lecture on “Current Reforms and Trends in Banking Sector” by Mr. N.K. Purohit, State Head, Centurion Bank of Punjab, Jaipur.
Mr. Purohit with his rich experience in the field of banking and management enlightened the student community on Retail Banking, Investment banking, Basel II committee and Non Performing Assets.

He also stressed upon the relevance of “Know your customer (KYC)” in the current banking scenario and elucidated the concept of “Bank assurance” to MBA and MCA students.

By the end of the session, the budding professionals got an appreciable understanding of the changing paradigms in the banking processes
The session, concluded with Mr.Purohit answering the queries raised by the students.

With the objective to groom the budding managers to improve their overall personality.  International School of Informatics & Management , Jaipur is organizing an inciteful session on December 13, 2006 at 10:00 am with Mr. Pranab Mukherjee renowned knowledge master, conceptual artist, workshop facilitator who has conducted over 500 quizzes, as the resource person.


IIIM organized a guest lecture on 29 November 2006, on “Secure Coding” by Prof. Shashikant Kelkar, IIT, Mumbai. 

There are many security vulnerabilities found recently in IT Industry which have caused havoc all across the Internet and therefore “Secure Coding “ is necessary to mitigate these weaknesses.  

Prof. Kelkar threw light on the threats of computing systems during collection of data and the problems created by misinterpretation of data. He further elaborated that instead of focusing on efficiency part of any software, one should focus on measuring its effectiveness. 

Prof. Kelkar, elucidated the sources of error in the systems, IT integrity assumption and IT security requirement. 

Through his cogent discourse, Dr. kelkar made the students realize that many security vulnerabilities could be prevented by taking security into consideration at the beginning of development process of any software.


International School of Informatics & Management, Jaipur organized an interactive session on “Banking Scenario” for enriching the knowledge of the students about banking sector delivered by Mr. Prashant Jhantani, Regional Credit Manager, ICICI (North). He talked about how primitive banking evolved and reached to the present day scenario with advancements, new services, innovations, technological advancements etc. He also revealed the success factors for any bank like, zeal to serve customers, excellent services and alacrity to introduce new changes, young blood and their ideas. He shared his experience about ICICI and inculcated ideas about growing banking sector. The session ended with the satisfactory answering of queries of both MBA and MCA students about banking sector.


A one-day workshop on "Competition and Competitive Policy of Government of India" was organised at IIIM, on November 10, 2006. Dr. Ravindra Vinayak, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, apprised the students with the Competition Act and its direct and indirect effects on the Indian economy. 

Dr. Ravindra, first, critically analysed the shortcomings of MRTP ACT and then conversed about the ‘Competition Act’ based on the recommendations of Raghavan Committee. Due to Liberalization and Globalization, the Indian Economy has become very strong but this has also helped the MNC’s to position themselves in the Indian market. In this changed scenario, where Indian companies are being forced to fight a tough competition with these giant MNC’s, the need of the hour is to enforce a law, which could help sustain the healthy competition in the market. In this context, Dr. Ravindra, stressed upon the relevance of Competition Act and enlightened the MBA and MCA students, with the legal aspects of this Act. In the end of the session, Dr. Ravindra contented the inquisitiveness of the students by answering the queries raised by them.


Mr. Suhas, H R Manager, ETS India, enlightened the MCA & MBA students on “HR Practices in Contemporary Organizations”, in a one day workshop held on November 3,  2006, in IIIM auditorium. Mr. Suhas has a vast corporate experience in a number of multinational companies on various managerial positions. 

In the beginning of his elucidation, Mr. Suhas discussed “getting started and  involved”. He very methodically exposed the students to the fact that in today’s changing business environs, a candidate’s analytical ability, communication skills, presentation skills and oratory skills are given more weightage in selection against her/ his degree.  

He expressed the need to learn and adapt to these changing scenarios to be successful in today’s corporate world. Mr. Suhas stressed on the all round development of the personality to become a successful manager. 


Mr. Hemant Amabani Consultant, Can & Will, Jaipur conducted a soft skills training session on Saturday, October 7, 2006 in IIIM for the students of MBA and MCA programme . 

He delivered an extensive and comprehensive discourse on the rudiment of corporate behaviour attitude and etiquettes. 

He offered numerous practical tips for developing  the right attitude and inculcating  effective approach to work. 

Particularly emphasizing the importance of etiquettes, he discussed table manners, dressing sense and interview tips. He gave a live demonstration to show various table arrangements, proper usage of cutlery, manners at  table etc.

“Reformation is the first step towards improvement”, keeping this as a vision, Mr. Nandan Srivastav, Dy. G.M., Zonal Head, Bank of Baroda, Rajasthan elucidated M.B.A. students on Indian Banking Sector with a “GLOCAL” perspective in the current competitive scenario  at International School of Informatics & Management, Jaipur on September 27, 2006. 

In his lecture, he acquainted students with the progress of Indian Banking Sector, emerging challenges like risk management, cost management, recovery and controlling NPAs. He laid special emphasis on the regulatory acts and norms like SARFAESI Act and BASEL II norms to maintain the capital adequacy ratio at par with the international standards.  

Further in his interactive session, he compared the Indian Banking System with South East Asian Banks, the Latin American Banks and the European Banking System, where he illustrated students about the card money and online transactions stating them as a demand of change. The impact of Mr. Nandan Srivastav lecture could be judged from the enthusiastic and intelligent queries put up by the students during the session.

 

A golden opportunity was grabbed by the students of IIIM on September 15, 2006, Branch Manager Mr. Rajeev and Training Manager Mr. Rahul Agarwal from ‘MetLife India Insurance’ visited IIIM campus and briefed students on the growing and future prospects of Insurance Industries and MetLife in India. In this interactive session, they ended up with giving a new vision about career prospects in Insurance Industry to the students.


Eminent speaker, Mr. Ajay Gupta, National Circulation Incharge of ABP group, (publishing Anand Bazar Patrika, Bussiness World, Star News) elucidated the inside story and working of media industry. He focused on pace, ambition, passion and winning attitude as the success mantra in Modern World. The session was interactive and ended with his best wishes for the students.


September Morning 8, 2006, IIIM, Jaipur had an highly enriching session with an eminent personality of the Indian Financial Management area - Prof. V.K. Bhalla, Dean & Director, FMS, University of Delhi. He has presented several research papers at national and international conferences and has published articles on international finance, security analysis and portfolio management and corporate finances. 

The hall of curious students was satisfied by Sir’s lecture about industry demands and placements and the most interesting - contemporary issues in Financial Management. 

Topics like FDI’s, Portfolio management, Investment decisions, Leverages, Cost of Capital, Capital budgeting (MM Model), RBI publications, Market reforms, Stock options, Mergers & Acquisitions etc. were explained broadly, which was followed by the interactive session with the students.

 

In the process of learning about the Indian Economy with the growth perspective a one-day workshop was organized with resource person Prof. Bibek Debroy as the Speaker.

Mr. Bibek Debroy started his career as an academician, taught at his alma mater, the Presidency College, later at Goblin Institute of Politics & Economics, IIFT Delhi and National Council of Applied Economic research, Consultant to the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. He has also been Consulting Editor with Financial Express, Indian Express, Business World and Business Today. Sir has been Secretary General of PHDCCI since January, 2006.

In his lecture, Prof. Bibek Debroy introduced different areas of Indian economy with special emphasis on per capita income growth rate, progress of Indian economy in last five decades and its evaluation with regard to contemporary major global economies.

He discussed and interacted with students on the various current and future economic trends along with the growth factor affecting Indian economy.

  

International School Of Informatics & Management (Formely India International Institute of Management )organized a guest lecture on ‘Retailing Business: Asian Perspective’ by Mr. Arun Bhardwaj, MD, Planet Sports Pvt. Ltd. on 23 December 2005. 
He expressed his views about the Indian Market as being a bundle of opportunities because of its large unorganized sector, billion plus population and access to free media as regards to the retail business.

He also stressed on the factors such as good brand awareness, high service quality and emotional appeal that play an important role in providing a strong case for the expansion of retail business in India. Mr. Bhardwaj gave an insight into the areas of operation of Planet sports in India and its future expansion plans. He highlighted the appreciable growth of the company in Malaysia, Vietnam, Phillipines, New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand. 
His lecture was followed by an enthusiastic interaction with the budding managers about prospects in the retail sector in India. In reply to a question Mr. Bhardwaj stated that India has better prospects in the sector than China because the Chinese are not as market and brand aware as Indians and the quality of service in the Chinese market is yet to match the Indian standards. 

He emphasized on the need for developing a passion for excellence and a zeal to succeed against all odds, so that the students can carve a niche for themselves in the competitive management world.

 

Industry - Institute Interface

On November 18, 2005, Dr. Bhaskar Bose, an alumnus of IIT, Kharagpur and currently Advisor, GMR Group, Bangalore, McNally Bharat Industries Ltd., Calcutta and International Eye Bank, Calcutta addressed the MBA students on “Managerial Competence: Traits and Behaviour”.

He acquainted the students with the mannerisms and attributes that a manager should possess. Dr. Bose  encouraged the future managers to acquire and strengthen their interpersonal, analytical, leadership and motivational competencies. He advised them to shun the ‘chalta hai’ attitude and focus on quality.

Through his lucid discourse , Dr. Bose made the participants realize that a hard working individual with average
intelligence, integrity, fairness and the ability to get along with others can grow to be a successful manager.


lecture on ‘Thinking Against Conventional Wisdom’.

On November 19, 2005 Prof. P.K. Jain, Director, FMS – M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur delivered a thought provoking lecture on ‘Thinking Against Conventional Wisdom’.

Encouraging the budding managers to ‘Dare to Fail’, Prof. Jain motivated them to shed the fear of failure, the fear of outcome and the fear of being too old to succeed. He cited the examples of achievers who thought beyond the conventional framework and contributed their bit to the society & science.

Prof. Jain’s statement ‘Private victories always precede public victories’ had a profound impact on the students. He emphasized the need to overcome personal fears and weaknesses by highlighting the success achieved by Shakespear, Milton, Beethoven, Edison, Roosevelt and the like despite their physical disabilities.
This highly interactive session reinforced the importance of originality of thought and unwavering commitment to achieving one’s goals.


Industry - Institute Interface

September 23, 2005, Mr. Ankur Goyal, IT specialist, IBM Global Services India Pvt. Ltd., visited the IIIM campus. He discussed open source technologies in detail and made an informative and interesting presentation on some of these technologies.

Mr. Goyal highlighted the potential benefits of open source tools to business, government, educational institutions and the student community. He also emphasized the need to strictly adhere to the software engineering techniques.

During his discourse he familiarized the participants with IBM’s academic initiatives and encouraged them to hone their skills to be significant contributors to open source technologies and to develop socially useful products.

The impact of Mr.Goyal lecture could be judged from the enthusiastic and intelligent queries put up by the students during the interactive session.


On September 15, 2005, Mr. Pankaj Sharma, Head Customer Services Rajasthan, Hutch, Jaipur, addressed the IIIM students on ‘Concept Delta and Creativity’. Mr. Sharma said that it is necessary to be creative, to accept change and newness, to be willing to play with ideas and possibilities and to have a flexible outlook, the habit of enjoying the good while looking for ways to improve, to achieve success. In his encouraging tone he enlightened the participants on how one can receive more and give more in life by managing the way one thinks. Mr. Sharma took the attendees on a journey of mastering "good thinking" to achieve their personal and professional potential.


Mr. Sudhir Dalal, Sr. Manager, Marketing, Punjab National Bank and Ms. Shikha Sharma, Branch Manager, PNB, Mansarovar Branch, Jaipur, visited the IIIM campus and briefed the students on the banking sector dynamics on September 15, 2005.  They provided an insight into the concepts of credit deployment, impact of reforms, and spoke on the current industry trends as well.

They also informed the participants about various schemes and offerings of the Punjab National Bank.


Industry - Institute Interface

 On Tuesday, September 6, 2005, Mr. Rahul Chandel, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Jaipur addressed management students at IIIM. He acquainted them with the future trends in the Life Insurance sector. Discussing the state of the sector, he presented an in-depth analysis of the growth opportunities for life insurance companies in India. Making the management students aware of the investors’ perspective, he highlighted the benefits of various insurance policies.

The participants gained considerable insights into various dimensions of the life insurance sector through his impressive discourse. Mr. Chandel enthusiastically satisfied the queries of the inquisitive young participants at the end of the session.

On September 6, 2005  Dr. Rajesh Kothari, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, RAPIM, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, addressed the students at IIIM emphasizing the changing contours of Indian industry through his words quoted above. Dr. Kothari discussed the current and future trends in business and expressed the need to convert knowledge into cash to meet the challenges of the changing business scenario.

 

He also familiarized the management students with different aspects of business including survival strategies, withstanding competitions, financial practices and diversification plans. The interaction concluded with Prof. Kothari’s skillful handling of the students' queries.


Tax Administration: The changing scenario

Its July and with it come the familiar words... "tax returns".

The words "TDS", "Saral", "PPF", and "NSC" leave most wide-eyed. For the common man the task of understanding the procedure and provisions of law seems daunting. 'Tax' is still a dreaded word - yet a little re-organization can save us more than we think. 

The IIIM family was privileged to have the Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, Government of Rajasthan, Shri. M. N. Verma in campus on Saturday July 30, 2005. Shri. Verma, in his enriching address to the students and staff of the ICFIA institutional network, highlighted the significance of income-tax and tax administration.  

He said that efforts are being made to provide relevant information to the taxpayers and to ensure transparency in tax administration. He also highlighted the benefits of the induction of latest technology in the tax compilation process. Shri Verma, informed the audience of the special supportive measure of setting up ‘Income Tax Help Centers’ for taxpayers taken by the I-T department with the aim to earn taxpayer’s confidence and tell them that the taxman is their friend on whom they can repose confidence. One such help center is active in the CII premises in Jaipur. He also briefed the participants about several other supplementary steps taken to minimize the interface to obviate avoidable hardships.  ‘These measures, which are in various stages of implementation, would go a long way in creating a climate conducive to voluntary compliance’ Mr. Verma said. 

Shri Verma appreciated the taxpayers of Rajasthan while citing the tax collection figures of the previous years and expressed confidence that the taxpayers of the state would come forward in a spirit of unstinted voluntary compliance and help the government in achieving the tax collection targets in coming years. 

He appealed to the future taxpayers to stay informed and contribute towards shoring up of the revenue growth and economy in the larger economic interest of our nation and thus be partners in progress. 

The workshop concluded with an interactive session where students discussed their queries and were more than satisfied and thrilled to receive rewarding answers from the Chief Commissioner himself.
