Quality
of education is an issue that is as old and as relevant as education
itself. The field of management is no different in its extreme concern for
and sensitivity to the cause of imparting education that is contextually
brilliant and distinctive. IIIM, in association with the
Management Development Academy, organized a programme to sensitize
the faculty and the students on the concerns that need to be addressed to
ensure excellence in management education.
The programme, inaugurated by Dr. Ishwar Dayal, founder Director, IIM
Lucknow and presided over by Mr. D.R. Mehta, former Dy. Governor, RBI and
former Chairman SEBI, envisaged to add novel dimensions to the
deliberations going on the world over
on the changing face of management education. The programme
witnessed enriching
participation from the academicians, consultants, practicing
managers and students to share thoughts, interventions and practices for
developing strategies to amplify the worth of the management study.
Dr. Ramesh Arora, Chairman, Management Development Academy, welcomed the
delegates and acquainted the participants with the issues to be discussed
during the daylong programme. He hoped that the discussions would make a
more noteworthy contribution in influencing and shaping the management
thought in the current scenario and reinforce the fact that the
future of management education lies in redefining and reinventing
itself.
The first technical session, chaired by Prof. Ishwar Dayal comprised a
discussion on Marketing and
HRM domains. Dr. R.S. Chandak, Principal, Commerce College, Jaipur
discussed the shift in marketing strategies and scopes and the need to
incorporate these shifts through regular updation in the syllabi. Ms.
Manju Nair, Asst. Prof. IIIM, expressed her views on HR education and laid
emphasis on the inclusion of practical aspects of the day-to-day HR
functions in the syllabus for the contents to be in tune with the current
management practices.
In the second technical session, the speakers put forth their views on the
finer points of teaching and learning in the areas of General, Strategic
and Marketing Management. Dr. Geetika Kapoor, Director, RAPIM, chaired the
session and discussed innovations in strategic management. Dr. Anil Mehta
emphasized on faculty-industry interface to enhance the professional
attributes of management courses. Dr. Kavaldeep Dixit recommended
innovation in methodologies, content and delivery of management education.
At the end of the programme, Dr. Ishwar Dayal enumerated a number of
encouraging and appropriate suggestions for the benefit of the teachers
and learners in management.
