A“Parichay-2013”, the weeklong orientation program to welcome aboard the fresh batch of MBA and PGDM students at IIIM commenced on 7th Aug 2013. This seventeenth batch of MBA and fourth batch of PGDM was amiably welcomed by their immediate seniors through a warm Welcome Ceremony.

The event started with a melodious Vandana, invoking almighty’s blessings followed by lighting of lamp by the dignitaries, Dr Ashok Gupta, Director, IIIM, Dr Manju Nair, Principal IIIM and Dr Kavaldeep Dixit, Vice Principal IIIM.

The director addressed the aspiring business managers and entrepreneurs through his motivating words to achieve unparallel heights in their professional lives and at the same time to be a socially responsible citizen. Dr Gupta laid the emphasis on high attendance in academic program and involvement in institute’s academic and extra-curricular activities to gain maximum out of this industry specific program. Dr Gupta also expressed that one can make sure that one lives up to the commitments and strives for the excellence in everything and approach everything with a sense of humility. This he said will lead one to the top of the ladder of success
A brief presentation by the senior batch about the repute of IIIM quantified through overall ranking of the B-school, the awards and the recognitions earned was shown to the newbies. It also displayed the unique and interesting features of the MBA program which included corporate activities and major events & activities organized throughout the year.
The freshers introduced themselves citing their expectations and aspirations after two years of this rigorous program. A great level of enthusiasm was clearly evident through their conduct and participation.
An interesting presentation on India’s Corporate Renaissance, telling about the industrial growth witnessed by our country in the past two decades, the key drivers of our economy, successful CEOs, our corporate icons and the future possibilities was shown to students.
The day’s proceedings ended with high tea with lots more in store for the upcoming week in the form of talks from eminent personalities from corporate world.
On the second day of the orientation program, the budding managers were addressed by influential leaders from different domains of the corporate world. Ms Rashi Mehta, corporate trainer, graced the gathering by making them aware about their personality and appearance. Ms Aditi Gupta, HR, Bosch India provided insights into career options in Bosch India. Ms Gupta’s interactive session covered a typical board interview at Bosch India and various employment opportunities at Bosch. Mr Prathem Tambole, facility director, Fortis Escorts, provided the insights of the corporate world and briefed about the various exercises which can be incorporated in routine to solve the challenges as a leader in complex and changing environment.
On the third day of the weeklong program, Mr Pavan Soni, Alumnus of IIM Bangalore, interacted with the newbies and made them aware about their hidden qualities. The session was interactive and the new batch showed eagerness to learn by their participation. Mr Sailesh Kackar, CEO Blackpearl, told the students about the significance of communication marketing and its role in advertising. The following session by Mr Bhupesh Ahuja, VP Sales (Raj), DSP Blackrock, provided an insight into financial services and acquainted the new batch about mutual fund industry. Mr Ravindra Sarda, VP, Branch Head, HSBC Bank, oriented the students on how to lead in the competitive, complex and changing corporate environment. Delivering the last talk of the day, Mr Prateek Kasliwal, CEO, The Law Desk, kept the students absorbed by briefing them on “Intellectual Property Rights”. He informed the students about trademark, patents, copy rights and Industrial designs etc.
The fourth day of the program had a refreshing start with inputs from Mr Pankaj Saxena, Director HR, Ericsson, and Ms Garima Shrivastava, Officer HR, Ericsson, who briefed the students about Ericsson and also gave a brief insight about the career options at Ericsson. The following session was by Mr Ankush Mahendra, Co-founder and lead training, Opportunity Knocks, shared with students his views and experience about the challenges of the corporate world. Ms Mita Agarwal, freelance corporate trainer, highlighted that the objective of MBA program is not to provide a platform to grab a job but to build a strong network in different domains. 
Ms. Jaya Jain, Manager Consumer banking, IndusInd bank, started the fifth day’s proceedings with an informative session on “An Overview of Indian Banking Sector” which apprised the students about Indian banking sector. Prof Ramesh Arora, Chairperson, Management Development Academy, spoke on ever changing International marketing world and importance of New Leadership Skills to manage it. Mr Anil Lachwani, Branch head, PNB Metlife, spoke on “Current trends in Loan Industry”. Day ended on a high after an inspiring talk by Mr Yogesh Chaudhary, Director, Jaipur Rugs. He talked on “Social Entrepreneurship” and how his organization Jaipur Rugs has been a change maker in the region as an employment generator at the bottom of the pyramid. He also made students aware about the success stories in social entrepreneurship across the country.
On concluding day, Mr Anshul Jain and Mr Satyendra Khonaria, Golden Divine talked about opportunities and challenges faced by Entrepreneurs. To summarize their message, they said that everyone should be a self guided missile who knows the target and remembers to hit it come what may be the circumstances. The speakers also said that success does not mean the absence of failure, it means the attainment of ultimate goal with the mantra “Go baby go”. As a next speaker Ms Shalini Rajvanshi, CA, spoke about “Investment trends in India”. She also acquainted the students about financial industry as a career option. Mr Akshay Nahar, Manager Exports, Golcha group gave a very inspiring talk on “Business Etiquettes” and stressed on importance of etiquettes and ethics as the cornerstone of every successful business. As a last speaker of the day and program Mr Munish Kothari, Chief counselor, Disha, provided an insightful analysis of Indian banking sector and Indian currency.
With this one weeklong orientation program fresher students have embarked onto a two year rigorous journey of MBA which they are confident of completing with flying colors.
