4th NORTH INDIA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

“Inspiring Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship for Poverty Eradication in India”

International School of Informatics and Management (IIIM), Jaipur in collaboration with India Development Coalition of America (IDCA), organized 4th North India International Conference on “Inspiring Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship for Poverty Eradication in India”, on 21st February, 2015.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. M.K. Devarajan, Honorable Member, State Human Rights Commission. Dr. Aparna Sahay, Additional Director, Accounts and Registrar, Centre for Management Studies, HCM-RIPA was the Key Note Speaker for the inaugural ceremony. Dr. Manju Nair, Principal, IIIM welcomed all the guest and delegates. Dr. Nair emphasized that education plays a significant role in creating awareness of human rights, and humaneness plays an imperative role in social entrepreneurship. Dr. Mohan Jain, in his address drew attention to the social inequalities prevailing in the society and gave a brief introduction of IDCA, focusing on the major contribution of IDCA in plummeting social imbalances. The Chief Guest Dr. M.K. Devarajan in his inaugural speech focused on the role of individuals in protecting human rights, and dignity of each other. Dr. Aparna Sahay, highlighted the avenues of social entrepreneurship and shared her ideas and experiences of the field with the audience.

The conference dealt with two themes. The first set of interactions on the theme ‘Innovative Practices in Water and Health Care’, had renowned persons from Non - Profit Organizations share their ideas, and these included Mr. Prashant Pal, Pure Efforts, Mr. Tejaramji, Manthan, Mr. O.P. Singh, Save the Children, and Mr. Varun Sharma, Project-Aravali. The speakers briefed the audience about the work they perform in different spheres for the underprivileged and answered questions put up by the participants.

Theme -2 was ‘Education and Livelihood’ which aimed at defining the relation between Skills & Education. The speakers for this session were Mr. Sameer Chaturvedi CEO, Jaipur Rugs Foundation, Ms. Babita Shekhawat, Elephant Poop paper, Dr. Pramila Sanjaya, Hon’ Advisor, SIDART- Society for Integrated Developmental Activities Research & Training, Mr. Rakesh Ranjan, HR, Head- Vodafone-Rajasthan Circle. In this session the experts highlighted the CSR activities and the need to align current education with skill development.

The students presented a brief of the projects, which they took up while working for organizations with a social cause. Eight teams came forward with a presentation of their work in the social sector. The top three presentations were rewarded with a cash prize of Rs.5000/-, Rs.3000/- and Rs.2000/- respectively. In the Valedictory session Dr. M.K. Jain presented the vote of thanks and further elaborated on generating innovative ideas for Social entrepreneurship.

The conference provided an interactive forum for the NGOs, Corporate representatives and students in finding innovative solutions for developing a holistic approach towards social responsibility, and combining education and business for social initiatives.
