The week-long Orientation Program of First batch of PGDM and a new batch of MBA commenced on August 27, 2010 in the auditorium of International School of Informatics and Management (IIIM). The new students were extended a warm and traditional welcome by the IIIM family. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director IIIM, welcomed the first batch of PGDM students and the fresh MBA aspirants, and informed them about the achievements and accomplishments of the college in various spheres at the national level and hoped that the new batch of students would take success of the institute to a greater height. He also encouraged them to emerge as leaders and set a benchmark in their respective fields. Through a well-compiled presentation the freshers were introduced to the world of IIIM and its sister institutions. Thereafter, the new students introduced themselves, sharing with their new family their hopes, aspirations and dreams. The budding managers were offered the first glimpse into the world of Management with an excellently scripted presentation on "Corporate World Unlimited", filling them with a sense of reverence and awe for the sector where their future would take shape. In the coming days of Orientation week, renowned people from the corporate world would enlighten the students with their knowledge and expertise about the recent and upcoming industry trends which would boost the potential of the budding managers. The second day of the orientation program commenced with a session by Mr. Amit Roy Chowdhury, AGM, IBB-SBBJ, Jaipur. In his highly encouraging session on "Development in International Business" he briefed the students about the important tools for global entry and international business plan development. He advised the budding managers to follow a research oriented approach in learning and also encouraged them to attend trade fairs and seminars to have a real insight of the global market. The next session was on “Business Etiquettes and Communication Styles” by Mr. Dilip Rathore, AVP, Genpact. Citing examples and instances from his experience, he said, ‘Many potentially worthwhile and profitable alliances have been lost because of an unintentional breach of manners’. Mr. Rathore bolstered his session with various informative stories, parables and examples of day-to-day life to explain the significance of right etiquettes in business world. The day concluded with a session by Mr. Mohit Arolkar, AVP, Genpact on “Preparing for Corporate World”. Mr. Arolkar advised the freshers to acquire expertise in their respective field through theoretical and practical understanding of a subject, stating it as a necessity for entering and surviving in the competitive corporate world. He cited a small story of ‘deer & tiger’ to make the participants aware of the corporate environment. |

On the fourth day of the orientation programme, Mr. Aadhar Zutshi, Corporate Trainer, briefed the new aspirants about the three key words for management applications, these words are "launch," "leadership," and "revolution”. Mr. Zutshi also informed students about the four personality styles Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholy, and Phlegmatic. Cholerics lead through assertiveness and strength of will; Sanguines through charm; Melancholies through rules and systems; and Phlegmatics lead by consensus or mentoring. The next session was “Rural Marketing-An Overview” by Dr. Himmat Singh, Advisor, Mother Dairy. Dr. Singh initiated his session with a quote by C. K. Prahalad "The future lies with those companies who see the poor as their customers." He acquainted the students with the fact that many times rural marketing is confused with agricultural marketing and factors that make rural markets attractive. To conclude the session he cited various examples of Mother Dairy to address the inquisitiveness of the young managers. The day concluded with a session of Ms. Aditi Gupta, Assistant Manager, HR, BOSCH on “Competency Development and Career Planning in Today’s Corporate Environment”. She stressed on the necessity for value-based competencies and emphasized on various professional traits vital in the competitive corporate world such as integrity, leading through vision & value, adaptability, stress tolerance, innovation, and developing team competencies. The last day of the week long programme commenced with an edifying session of Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Director, Opportunity, a Jaipur based Consultancy firm, on “Effective Business communication”. Ms. Sharma in her interactive session advised the students with the help of various examples to communicate effectively. She said ‘Don't try to articulate all you know – speak only what your audience needs to know or what your audience wants to know’. The participants eagerly raised various queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker. Mr. Rathindra Zutshi, Branch Manager, Barclays Finance in his session on “Recruiters’ expectations from an MBA” informed that MBA graduates must do well to conduct their first job search on the basis of getting a foot in the door of a new career, and drop their expectations of walking into upper management right away. He discussed that problems arise when students fail to realize that they have to put in some hard work and develop their skills over time in order to move up the corporate ladder. Mr. Prateek Kasliwal, Proprietor, The Law Desk initiated his session on 'Intellectual Property Rights- An Overview' said that in the world of inventions it becomes necessary to validate the creation and in a legalized pattern. In the end of the session he briefed the students about the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that recognizes the sovereign rights of countries on their genetic resources. He explained the IPR concept citing various legal battles on Neem, Turmeric and Basmati that have led to a fear in most of the developing countries that, by using the instruments of present global regime of Intellectual Property Rights, much of their natural wealth in the form of bio-diversity aspects will be expropriated by Trans National Corporations. The week long orientation program ended with a spiritually uplifting classical music performance by Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, a famous Sarod artist known for his seminal contributions to the aesthetics and popularity of the classical music. He is renowned for the Senia Maihar Mantle. Tejendra ji combines the intellectual density and technical genius of his gharana with an extraordinary tone, touch and an ambient melody. He was accompanied by Ustad Akram Khan a famous tabla artist. Ustad Karam Khan is one of the finest contemporary performers of Ajara Gharana Style. The event was organized by SPIC MACAY with a motive to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values. |
