The week-long Orientation Program for the new batch of MCA commenced on September 23, 2010 in the auditorium of International School of Informatics and Management (IIIM). The new students were extended a warm and traditional welcome by the IIIM family. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director IIIM, welcomed the fresh MCA aspirants, and informed them about the achievements and accomplishments of the college in various spheres at the national level and hoped that the new batch of students would take success of the institute to a greater height. He also encouraged them to emerge as leaders and set a benchmark in their respective fields. Through a well-compiled presentation, the freshers were introduced to the world of IIIM and its sister institutions. Thereafter, the new students started off their journey with their brief introduction. The budding technocrats were offered the first glimpse into the world of technology with an excellently scripted presentation on "Emerging Technology", filling them with a sense of reverence and awe for the sector where their future would take shape. In the coming days of Orientation week, renowned people from the corporate world would enlighten the students with their knowledge and expertise about the recent and upcoming industry trends which would boost the potential of the new entrants. On the second day of the orientation programme Ms. Swati V. Chande, Principal, (Computer Science) briefed the students about the Organization structure, and acquainted them with the operations and academic, disciplinary, cultural, and professional conduct expected of them in the institute. Mr. Punit Mittal, CEO, Pratham Software acquainted students with the career opportunities in the IT field. Mr. Mittal briefed the freshers about dimensions of Software Service. In this enriching session he briefed about the required skill set for each domain of IT services. He advised the budding technocrats to follow a research oriented approach in learning and also encouraged them to attend seminars and technical fairs to enhance there communication as well as technical skills. Ms. Komal Ahuja, Tufit in her interactive session advised the students with the help of various examples to have a focused and a well defined vision. She said ‘Don't try to replica to others’ vision, but frame your vision’. The first session of the third day of the orientation programme was organized for the new students to get familiar with the solution related to citizen centric applications.
The speaker for the sessions was Mr. Sanjay Karnik, Deputy Manager, Rajcomp. He briefed the students about the contributions IT has provided to improve the services like LOKMITRA, State Wide Area Network (SWAN) etc. provided by the Local Development Authorities of any city. Mr. Karnik also briefed about how a common man contributes in making governing smoother and easier.
Mr. Rakesh Singhal, Professor, Officers Training Institute commenced his session with the comparative study of the conventional system and computerized system in today’s scenario. Sir also discussed about various forms of e-Governance, its benefits to government and customers and its components like Process, People, Technology and Resources.
Next session on Emerging technologies was with Ms. Aditi Gupta, Deputy Manager, HR, Bosch India Pvt. Ltd., She acquainted budding technocrats with technologies like CRDI (Common Ray Direct Injection) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Participants eagerly raised queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker.
The fourth day was inclusive of the sessions by the technocrats from various software companies like Logic-Spice, InTimeTech, and the IT Giant HCL.
Mr. Manish Shrimal, MD, Logic Spice, enhanced the knowledge of the students by giving information regarding various technologies which are currently in trend in the market like LINUX, Android and Java. He also briefed on the future trends in technologies.
Mr. Sandeep Jain, MD, InTimeTech, conversed on the dos and don’ts of college life to build a successful career in IT. He advised the students on building the 4C’s (Confidence, Commitment, Communication and Collaboration) and following the 5P’s (Persistence, Perseverance, Patience, Practice and Progress). He also stressed on the importance of time management by illustrating the Time Management Matrix.
Mr. Chirag Jain, Manager-HR, HCL in his interactive session familiarized the students about the career opportunities in the Field of IT. He talked on the four sectors of Information Technology, IT Services, e-Business, Engineering Services, ITES-BPO services.
Mr. Jain with the assistance of his colleague Manish Mathur Senior Software Engineer HCL explained about the various profiles available in the IT field like DBA, Software Developer and Business Analyst. He provided inputs on the skill sets required for each of these profiles.
The sessions of the day were thus filled with technical, behavioral and operational inputs from the speakers to the future IT professionals. |
