Seminar on Career Aspects in Electronic

A Seminar was organized in IIIM auditorium, in collaboration with 95 FM Tadka on 10th September 2009 for intensifying various facets and prospects of media. The key speakers of this seminar were Shri Darpan Mehta, Program Head, 95 FM Tadka and Ms Jiya, Senior RJ, 95 FM Tadka.

Shri Darpan Mehta said that reality is entering an exciting phase of aggressive growth in the media outsourcing space. He also emphasized that to cater to the ongoing expansion, media and entertainment sector offers various career options. Mr. Mehta termed Radio as the most selective of the media, with individual stations providing access to target audiences of almost every demographic description. Many stations have positioned themselves to reach specific audience segments instead of the total market. In one marketplace, one station may only play country-western music, another rock music, a third only religious music, while others feature 24-hour news broadcasts or talk shows.

He also presented radio as a cost effective advertising medium and said that radio advertising costs much less than television advertising, making it an attractive choice. He informed students that businesses do notice an increase in sales when they add radio to the mix.

As per Ms. Jiya radio is the most far-reaching and convenient of the social outreach tools. It facilitates the spread of awareness on issues such as weather, health, education, women empowerment etc. She also made the students aware of skill sets required for a career in electronic media in general and radio in particular.

They concluded the session by answering queries of students regarding opportunities in media and notifying students that internet radio shows are starting to take off in a big way.
