Parichaya

The week-long Orientation Program “Parichaya” commenced today in the auditorium of International School of Informatics and Management (IIIM) for the new batch of MBA students. The much awaited arrival of their juniors was aptly greeted with warm welcome by the senior MBA students in a traditional manner by garlanding them.

 Thereafter, the new students were acquainted with the institution, its management and the various activities held in the institute with the help of a presentation. The Director of the institute, Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the students and told them about the various achievements and accolades won by the students and hoped that the new batch of students would take this glorious tradition a long way. In his address to the students, he stressed on the importance of being dedicated and excel in whichever field they choose to be in .He also encouraged them to emerge as leaders in their respective fields and thus set a landmark.

After the encouraging note, the new students started off their journey with the institute with their introductions. With a very erudite presentation on “Corporate World Limited”, the program for the day came to an end.

In the coming days of Orientation week, eminent people from the management and corporate sectors would enlighten the students with their experiences and current and upcoming industry trends which would help the budding managers in their future endeavors.

On the second day of the orientation programme Dr. Manju Nair, Principal, IIIM briefed the students about the Organization structure, and acquainted them with the operations and academic, disciplinary, cultural, and professional conduct expected of them in the institute. She also highlighted the future focus areas in management and current strengths and weaknesses of the industry. 

Speaking on ‘Strategies for coping with recession’, Mr. Kamlesh Jain, Manager, Fullteron India Pvt. Ltd. briefed the students about emerging challenges in banking and finance industry.  Sir elucidated about the research and development strategies implemented by Fullteron to effectively deal with recession.  

Sir in his session further highlighted, that every management student must be aware of global corporate scenario. The speaker enthusiastically responded, citing real life examples, to the queries of the participating students. 

Mr. Neeraj Prakash,  All India Marketing Head, Shriram General Insurance, in his highly motivating session on ‘General Insurance and Role of  Marketing Professionals’ acquainted budding managers with the various current and emerging trends of the Insurance sector.  

Sir also briefed the new aspirants about various factors which shape a 21st century insurance company such as turbulent environment, changing government and corporate policies, leadership, knowledge revolution, global connectivity, and work culture. 

To conclude the session he cited a famous inspirational thought, ‘The thing that you really believe in always happens; and the belief in a thing makes it happen’. The session was well taken and the participants eagerly raised various queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker. 

G/C Captain Manoj Kumar, Placement Coordinator and Assistant Professor, IIIM. Sir enhanced the knowledge of the students about the requirements of the industry in the competing world. Mr. Manoj acquainted the students with the importance of soft skills in day to day life.  

On the third day Mr. Rahul Shandilya, Regional Manager, ICFAI University in his session on ‘Managing Professional Excellence’ elucidated various qualities which are essential for winners. He cited Determination, Planning, Organizational Skills, Time Management and Effective communication as the key ingredients for professional excellence.  

Mr. Shandilya in his highly motivating session offered numerous practical tips for developing the right attitude and inculcating effective approach to work. Sir stressed on the significance of being creative, to accept change and newness, to be willing to play with ideas and possibilities and to have a flexible outlook, the habit of enjoying the good while looking for ways to improve, to achieve success.
 

Mr. Jagdeep Singh, DGM, RIICO in his highly enriching session on ‘Significance of Communication and Soft Skills’, acquainted budding managers with the current and future requirements of the corporate world. He provided the students with various handy suggestions to improve their pronunciation, communication, dressing sense, body language and attitude. Sir also highlighted that personality is the dynamic organization of psychological systems that determine an individual’s behavior and thoughts.

Sir ended the interactive session by answering queries of students.  

Mr. Karun Kandoi, Founder & MD, Shree Eduserve Pvt. Ltd. in his session on ‘Entrepreneurial Skills Development’ stressed on the significance of being creative and organized, to accept change and newness. He stressed on incessantly running to survive and sustain in today’s highly competitive world.

Sir bolstered his session with various informative stories, parables and examples of day-to-day life. Defining ‘entrepreneur’ he said that, they are people who realize and believe in their aspirations.  

The next session was on ‘Personality Development’, by Mr. Ravi Gurubaxani, Branch Head, HDFC Bank. He drew the audience’s attention to significant attributes for personality development like reading, time management, and effective communication. 

The speaker opined that usage of small sentences, neutral accent, clear pronunciation and voice modulation are the key to become a good speaker. He gave some practical demonstrations on the common mistakes made by individuals while speaking in public, delivering a lecture, during interview, or making presentations. Mr. Gurubaxani ended the highly motivating session by answering to the queries of students. 

The fourth day of the orientation week commenced with the guest lecture by Mr. Vikram Agarwal, Regional Manager, Alternate Channel, Birla Sunlife Insurance, on ‘Overview of Industry and role of an MBA Professional’. 

Sir initiated his session by providing the budding managers an insight of various insurance organizations and their market strategies. He urged the students to enhance their worth in job market by focusing on communication skills.

Next session was an Orientation on Marketing by Dr. Kavaldeep Dixit, Vice Principal, IIIM. She introduced the new comers to the MBA curriculum as prescribed by RTU, Kota. Dr. Dixit encouraged the freshers to identify their learning style preferences and ensure that they are able to grasp the maximum from facilitators. 

The day concluded with a session on ‘Developing Enterprising Mindsets for a successful Corporate Career’, by Mr. Sharad Kamra, renowned entrepreneurship Consultant. Sir initiated his session with a small movie ‘Did you know?’ which showed facts of  speeding rollercoaster world like success of google, text messages,  and such technologies.

Sir cited various real life examples to motivate the freshers to control their fascination towards higher packages and to focus on job satisfaction in terms of knowledge acquired and responsibility discharged.

The session was well taken and the participants enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker.

The fifth day of week long orientation programme initiated Orientation on Finance Management by Ms. Richa Thakur, Senior lecturer, IIIM. She initiated her session by intimating students about the competing finance industry. Ms. Richa emphasized that regular updates about industry is the key to success in the dynamic finance field.

G/P Captain Gunashekharan, Station Commander, Indian Air Force initiated his highly enriching session on “Leadership Skills” with George R Terry’s quote ‘Leadership is the ability of influencing people to strive willingly for group work’.Sir emphasized that best leader is one who is capable of behaving in various styles depending upon the requirement of situation.

To conclude the session he cited various real life examples to elucidate the basic traits of leaders like courage, integrity, endurance, innovativeness etc. 

The day concluded with inputs from Mr. Digvijay Singh, Branch Head, Standard Chartered, Wealth Manager, on ‘The role of professionals in the corporate world’. He informed the students about the recent trends and practices in wealth management industry and the expectations from MBA.  

Mr. Singh stressed the significance of Smart Goals, which every person must strive to achieve. The smart goals as per him, should be S Specific, M Measurable, A Achievable, R Rewardable, T Time Bounded.

At the end of the session, the speaker encouraged and answered various queries raised by the students. 

The sixth day of orientation programme commenced with Mr. Diptamoy Goswami, HR Manager, Reliance Communication’s session on ‘Business Etiquettes’. He addressed the students on the need to reinforce value based management practices.  He also emphasized that formal corporate communication through group induction and common development programmes have to be fine-tuned towards achievement of the spirit of cohesion and common culture. 

In his edifying session he very methodically exposed the aspirants to the fact that in today’s changing corporate environs, a candidate’s analytical ability, confidence, communication skills, enthusiasm, time management and punctuality are given high weightage in selection.  

Dr. Avdesh Bhardwaj, HoD, Dept. of Management Studies, MNIT initiated his session on ‘Developing Employability Skills and relevance of an MBA Degree’ with a small management story. Sir briefed the new aspirants about various factors which contribute in shaping organizations, effective leadership, efficient knowledge management, global connectivity, and productive work culture.  

Sir also highlighted that capable and competent employees make all the difference. Self motivated employees are instrumental in achieving organizational objectives. He also briefed the students about the industry’s expectations from Management graduates and acquainted them with various techniques to enhance their competencies.

The day concluded with   Ms. Vibhuti Mehta’s, Associate Vice President, HSBC Bank, session on ‘Personality Grooming and Industry’s Expectations’. She elucidated students about the imperative 3 V’s of personality: visual, vocal and verbal.

Ms. Mehta emphasized on various professional traits, imperative in the competitive corporate world such as – taking initiatives, having an eye for details, accepting challenges, creativity, technical up gradation, personal efficiency, impressive influencing body language and dressing sense.  

The week-long orientation programme concluded with effective learning and value addition by the participating students. The Industry-academia interactive sessions were well received and were well appreciated both in terms of Intellectual enrichment and quality content. The programme accomplished its objectives of acquainting the freshers with the institute, its working and environment and the opportunities and threats in the corporate world field that they have chosen to make their career in.
