On September 6, 2008 International School of Informatics and Management initiated a week long orientation programme ‘Parichaya-2008’, as the first communication mode between the Institute and its newcomers. The Programme was organized to orient the students with the Vision and Mission, ethics, culture, and codes of the Institute. The new aspirants were welcomed warmly by Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director, on the first day of the practicum. On behalf of the institute he extended his best wishes and expressed hope that the newly admitted students would bring name and fame to the institute with their, sincerity, enthusiasm and dedication. He advised the students on wholesome personality development by being active, interactive and participative in academics and co- curricular activities. Sir also highlighted the significance of effective communication for excellence in corporate arena and informed the students about the opportunities and bright possibilities of making a career in this field of management. A presentation on ‘India Unlimited’ was presented to acquaint the budding managers with the Intricacies and challenges of the Management World. During this week-long workshop, participants will be familiarized with different facets of recent trends and challenges of business. On the second day of orientation programme Dr. Manju Nair, Vice Principal, IIIM briefed the students about the Academic, Discipline, Culture, Code and Conduct of the institute. Speaking on ‘Industry Expectations from fresh management graduates,’ Mr. Ratnesh Kashyap, M.D., SRSL International Private Limited and executive member of CII Rajasthan’s session was corroborated by various thought provoking stories and real life incidents to learn from.
He elucidated the budding managers, on the qualities which organizations are seeking in them. Mr. Kashyap emphasized that leadership, learning attitude, naturality, never say die attitude, punctuality discipline, communication skills, are the essentials qualities looked for in freshers. Sir stressed on ‘Integrity’ as a most important virtue for the leader.
Handling queries of the inquisitive students he concluded by acquainting students with the two important necessities to be successful in management; ‘never stop learning’ and ‘learn to say no’.
Prof. Rajesh Kothari, Director, R.A.Poddar in his highly motivating session on ‘Professional Excellence’ acquainted budding managers with the various current and future requirements of the corporate world. He provided the students with various handy suggestions to improve their pronunciation, communication, dressing sense, body language and attitude. Sir also emphasized that students must supplement their knowledge with regular inputs. The session was interactive and ended on an inspirational note. Mr. Rohit Maheshwari, a renowned chartered accountant and a corporate trainer initiated his session on ‘Personal effectiveness’ with the words, Life – a time period between birth and ultimate truth ‘death’ And it is full of choices….. You choose how you want to be…… Sir in his highly enriching session suggested ‘chase your dreams to the fullest to make them true by equipping yourselves with your capabilities and explore yourself by asking’: What I have? What I need? Who am I? Why am I? What am I? Well framed activities were planned by Mr. Maheshwari for students to make them think out of the box and develop competing spirit within them. He ended the session on the note ‘strive for excellence, create hunger in yourself for excellence and become an expert of whatever you do.’ |

‘Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.’ Mr. Milan Chattaraj, Head HR, Vodaphone initiated his session on ‘Current trends in HR Industry’ with this encouraging quote.
Mr. Chattaraj also briefed the new aspirants about various factors which are essential in shaping 21st century organizations like turbulent environment, leadership, knowledge revolution, global connectivity, and work culture.
Sir also emphasized that, its people who create the difference. Self motivated employees are the key to success. In order to create revolution you need the evolution of character. Mr. Milan also acquainted students with the upcoming trends and future of Indian Telecom Industry.
To conclude the session he cited a famous inspirational thought by Swami Vivekanand, ‘Loosing vision is worse than losing eyesight’. The session was well taken and the participants enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker.
The next session was on ‘Innovation and Technical Initiative in Retail Sector’ by Mr. A.K.Jain, Chief Regional, Manager, HPCL. Sir in his inspirational session acquainted the budding managers about the culture of HPCL.
Sir stressed on innovation as key to success and said that it should always be done keeping costumer satisfaction in centre. Mr. Jain also informed about changes which HPCI incorporated to new visages to compete with ever changing world.
His simple yet practical, useful tips were well appreciated by one and all. The session, concluded with Mr. Jain, effectively handling the queries raised by the inquisitive participants.
The day concluded with a session by Mr. Arun Krishnan, AVP, Genpact, on ‘Meeting the Challenges of the Corporate World’.
Sir initiated the session by elucidating the importance held by communication and soft skills for personal excellence and professional success. Mr. Krishanan, in his thought provoking session mentioned that we have to acknowledge the significance of soft skills and right attitude towards work.
Sir in his session further highlighted, that every management student must be aware of global corporate scenario. The speaker enthusiastically responded, citing real life examples, to the queries of the participating students. |

On the fourth day of orientation programme Mr. Ashok Abraham, AVP, Mico Bosch briefed the budding managers on ‘Emerging Trends in the Corporate World’. Sir initiated his highly enriching session by citing a thought-provoking message, ‘Experience is a comb that nature gives to man after he is bald.’ Mr. Abraham acquainted future managers with various handy suggestions to progress towards developing their competencies. Sir stressed on the significance of emotional quotient. This he said, is a type of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one’s own and other’s emotions, to use the information to guide one’s thinking and actions for deriving performance. In the end Mr. Ashok urged students to compete against the situation, not rivals. The session was well taken and the participants enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session which were impressively answered by the speaker. Mr. Nihal Jain, Manager, Times of India in his session on ‘Current Trends in the Print Media’, briefed students about the new paradox of journalism. Sir also highlighted various species of newspaper that may be most threatened is the big-city metro paper that came to dominate in the latter part of the 20th century. Mr. Jain also acquainted them with the fact that the traditional media do appear to be moving toward technological innovations. The week long learning programme concluded with effective learning by the participating students. The colloquium was well appreciated both in terms of Intellectual and quality content. The programme accomplished its objectives well and was a grand success. |
