Data Compilation and Effective
Presentation
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Dean and
Director FMS, Vikram University, Ujjain, initiated the
session "Develop Reserve Power", wherein, he emphasized that
one should assemble a hundred thoughts around one’s
presentation theme and then discard ninety and focus on the
one theme one considers most relevant.
Prof. Rao in his session
further highlighted the four essential Ps – Planning,
Preparation, Practice and Presentation that must be
effectively managed for a memorable speech. Sir, also
reiterated the fact that the
presenter to be successful should be able to take the
attention of the audience by a powerful beginning, the
contents should be easily understood and at the end of the
presentation audience should be able to remember if not all,
at least some of the key points.
His lecture was followed by an enthusiastic interaction
with the faculty members on the various
techniques for successful and effective presentation
like Audience involvement, audience active participation,
planning the contents and flow of the presentation, etc.
His simple yet practical,
useful tips were well appreciated by one and all.
Session 2
The need for time management
holds significant importance in today’s context where
everyone is constantly juggling between hectic schedules and
pressurizing engagements. To assist faculty members in
comprehending the value of time and its management in the
most productive way a management game was conducted for
discussing Time Management techniques, pros and cons of
adopted methodology and need for prioritizing events. The
importance of maintaining a diary and sticking to
appointments date and time was also stressed upon.
Session 3
Effective Communication and
Soft Skills
A renowned management
academician, Mr. R.B. Khanna, was the speaker in the third
session. Sir, initiated the session by elucidating the
importance held by communication and soft skills for
personal excellence and professional success. Sir, in his
thought provoking session mentioned that we
have to acknowledge the significance of soft skills because
it is IQ (intelligence quotient) that gets one hired but it
is EQ (emotional Quotient) that gets one promoted and soft
skills is all about EQ or emotional intelligence.
In his view Communication and
Soft skills are critical skills required in personal and
professional life to excel.
He also
motivated the participants to develop excellent
inter-personal skills and positive attitude.
The faculty members uniformly agreed with his ideas that one
must be ready to solve problems proactively and create
win-win situations and one must be able to take ownership
i.e. responsibility for one’s actions and lead from the
front without calling it quits at the most critical moment.
Mr. Khanna with the help of a
well framed questionnaire engrossed the participants in
judging their own personality and also linked the
questionnaire to the Johari window.
Sir ended the session on a
mesmerizing note
Session 4
Case study Presentation
All the faculty members
participated in the contextual management case study
presentations on the cases distributed and administered on
Day 1.
Session 5
Statistical Analysis and
Testing of Hypothesis
In Research and field projects
which hold paramount importance in today’s management world
knowledge of statistical tools and hypothesis testing forms
the base. Hence, a session by Dr. Jagdish Prasad, Professor,
University of Rajasthan, was organized wherein, he
elaborated and explained different analytical tools. He also
equipped the participants with information on various
sampling techniques, methods of sampling – probabilistic and
non probabilistic sampling and sampling design.
Sir discussed with the faculty
members the objectives of research, its methodology,
hypothesis formulation, data analysis and presentation of
findings.
The session was well taken and
the participants enthusiastically raised various queries at
the end of the session which were impressively answered by
the speaker.
Session 6
A management game on Managing
stress in day to day life was conducted for comprehending
Stress Management techniques and pros and cons of adopted
methodology. The participants were also asked to write down
causes of stress and the ways adopted by them to overcome
stress. An interesting outcome of the case- discussion was
that simple methods like, Yoga, Long walks, Meditation,
listening to music etc. had been effective in reducing
stress. Participants also felt that hearty laugh everyday is
also a strong de-stressor.
Session 7
Revisiting Marketing Fetish
A renowned academician in the
field of Marketing Management, Dr Avinash Kapoor, Professor,
MDI Gurgaon drew the attention of the audience on the recent
trends in marketing and its impact on marketers and
consumers. change in concept of marketing fetish and
intimated the participants about new visage in advertising
world.
Sir highlighted the paradigm
shift in Indian market for men who now are more brand and
fashion conscious, and who now on account of retail and
media revolution are better informed and have access to good
apparel brands and personal grooming items. Sir, informed
that nowadays, since men equate good skin and hairstyle to
their personality and well-being it has provided huge
potential to manufacturers who are now tapping this segment
with a diverse portfolio of styling products. Real-life
examples of Emami, Marico's Kaya skin clinic and Brylcreem
were interestingly discussed to drive home the idea.
The session, concluded with Dr.
Avinash, effectively handling the queries raised by the
inquisitive participants.
Session 8
Case Study Presentation on
“Fair and Handsome cream for
men - A new segment”.
A marketing case study on Emami
products for men administered by Dr. Avinash Kapoor in his
session was presented and discussed by the participants. The
participants were convinced that with globalization, rising
income and increased literacy the personal grooming segment
for men in coming time is bound to grow and generate profits
for creative marketers.
Session 9
For active
class interaction and participation role plays and in-basket
exercises are a must. Hence, a simulation exercise was
conducted to train faculty to excel in real life classroom
teaching with the help of role plays. Faculty members also
discussed at length the teaching pedagogies adopted in
global B-schools.
Session 10
A brain storming session was
conducted for discussing the recent trends in management
education, the student’s expectation from institute, the
industry’s expectations from academia, etc. The session
proved beneficial in providing the much required platform to
the participants to express their views about the future of
management education and also to devise strategies to gain
competitive edge in today’s dynamic scenario.
Valediction
The two week long learning
programme for faculty members from all over India concluded
with effective feedback from the participants and
distribution of certificates of participation. All members
involved were delighted with this learning initiative and
value addition experience. They urged the management to
organise such meaningful Faculty Development Programmes in
future as well.
The feedback
received conveyed that the programme was intellectually
enriching and qualitatively engrossing. The programme
accomplished its set objectives and was a grand success. |
