Inaugural The Faculty Development Programme on “Road Map to Sustaining Academic Excellence In Management & IT Education” organized by International School of Management and Informatics was inaugurated on July 18, 2007 by Dr. Damodar Sharma, Vice Chancellor, RTU, Kota. The Programme is being conducted in collaboration with Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, is sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi. Mr. Mangesh Parelkar, a renowned management consultant, was the guest of honor for the inaugural ceremony of the FDP and Dr. Rajesh Kothari, Dean & Director, R.A. Poddar Institute of Management, Jaipur delivered the Key Note Address. Chief Guest Dr. Damodar Sharma initiated his speech with a sanskrit verse from “Kathopnishad”. Sir apprised the audience with the new tools and techniques in the field of Management and IT. He also enlightened the participants with the theme and the purpose of the programme. He urged upon the faculty members to take on the responsibility of educational, vocational and moral upliftment of the students and cautioned that this can only be achieved when the faculty himself/ herself is ready to learn, unlearn and relearn. Dr. Rajesh Kothari, the key note speaker for the inaugural ceremony, acquainted the audience with the significance of continual improvement in faculty in terms of knowledge and innovation to attain excellence as an academician. Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director, ISIM, welcomed the guests and appraised them with the institute’s progress. Sir acquainted the participants with the multi pronged strategy for faculty development adopted at the institute. Session One: Case Method as Tool for teaching viz – a – viz Lecturing Mr. Mangesh Parelkar, a renowned consultant in integrated marketing communication from Ahmedabad, elaborated the importance of case studies as a tool for professional teaching. Sir also intimated the participants on how to deal with cases in the classroom and the optimistic impact of the case study method on students. Mr. Mangesh Parelkar used the case of “Dashman Company” on communication management to conclude the session.
Session Two: Case method for fostering Multi – dimensional Learning: Case Writing In the second session Mr. Parelkar elucidated the audience about the various aspects of case analysis and steps of the case solving process. He stressed upon ‘criteria ‘as a tool which should be kept in mind while analyzing cases. Sir highlighted various tools for case solution through an example case on “Grandview Morning Press”. The session was well appreciated and the participants raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker. |

Session One Teaching Styles an Introspective Approach In this enriching and enlightening session Mrs. Tanjul Saxena, Director, Management Development Academy, elaborated on the Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic and Tactile approach of teaching styles to the participants. She also administered various interesting management games to the faculty member to elucidate the different teaching styles. Mrs. Tanjul with the help of well framed questionnaires helped participants in judging there own teaching styles. At the end of the session, Mrs. Saxena shared real life class experiences to drive home with the idea. Various practical useful tips for better class participation were also delivered effectively. Session Two: Art of Living Dr. Anil Mehta, Reader, Dept. of Business Administration, University of Rajasthan initiated the session on Art of Living, with a small story of “young scholarly professor and a sailor” which highlighted the significance of positive attitude in life. Sir drew the audience attention on significant issues like honesty, ethical living, happiness and peace within oneself to help lead a meaningful and purposeful existence. His simple yet touching ideas were well presented and thought provoking. He left the participants with wonderful words like avoid using one letter word ‘I’, use two letter word ‘We’ and kill three letter word ‘Ego’. Dr. Mehta ended the session on mesmerizing note. Session 1 Professional Ethics An highly enriching session with an eminent personality of English Literature area - Mrs. Jasbeer Jain, Retired English Professor, University of Rajasthan and currently Director, IRIS Institute. She has presented more than 100 research papers in the field of English literature with a strong focus on drama, ideology, and post- colonial literature. Mrs. Jain in her session stressed upon the four essential qualities which every teacher must have: Commitment, Dignity, Respect and Integrity. Her lecture was followed by an enthusiastic interaction with the faculty members on the code of ethics for an academician. She also emphasized the virtue of a teacher in tapping the potential of students. In an enriching session she delivered an extensive and comprehensive discourse on the rudiment of professional behaviour attitude and etiquettes. Session 2 Simulation Exercise A simulation exercise was conducted to excel in the real life classroom teaching with the help of role plays. Session 3 Wireless Networking Mr. Pramod Agarwal, Joint Director, Jaipur Development Authority, initiated the session by elucidating about the history of wireless networking and Bluetooth technology. In his session he acquainted the participants with the various threats to wireless system like Ad hoc Networks, Man in the Middle Attack and Denail of service. Sir also elucidated the role of different standard organization like ISO, IEEE. His session was well appreciated and the enthusiastic participants raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker. |

Session 1 Revisiting Research Methodology Dr. J. P Sharma, Professor, EAFM Department, University of Rajasthan initiated the session by emphasizing on Authoritarian, Rational and Mystical mode of knowledge . Sir elucidated the faculty members with the research methodology, techniques and tentative frameworks which help in hypothesis formulation. The session was well appreciated and the participants enthusiastically raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker. Session 2 Multidisciplinary Teaching Relevance and Challenges Dr. Hemant Anand, Professor, IIHMR, Jaipur is a renowned personality in International Business and Marketing Management. Mr. Anand with his rich experience elucidated the audience with Trans disciplinary, Cross disciplinary and Multidisciplinary Strategies. He also highlighted that a good teacher should be Patient and sensitive to the need of his students. Sir ended the session on a thought provoking note “If students are not learning the way we teach we need to teach the way they learn”. The session, concluded with Dr.Hemant, effectively handling the queries raised by the participants. Session 3 Faculty Evaluation Systems: Issues and Concerns. Dr. Geetika Kapoor, Former Director of R.A. Poddar Institute of Management is an eminent academician with vast experience in the field of management education and recipient of ‘Best Youngest Teacher Career Award’ by AICTE. An expert in the area of Strategic Management, she stressed upon the parameters considered for personal evaluation of teachers. In her session she also emphasized on significance of accreditation. In her enlightening session on Evaluation of teacher, she also delivered various practical useful tips for better class participation and student involvement. |

Session 1 Undertaking Research Projects: Approaching Funding Agencies. A renowned personality from the field of International Trade Prof. J.K. Tandon, Department of EAFM, University of Rajasthan illuminated the audience regarding the various schemes of All India Council for Technical Education and University Grants Commission. Sir in his highly informative session also briefed the audience with the prerequisites for various Schemes like Career Reward for Young Teachers, Scheme of Travel Grants for International Conferences AICTE and schemes like faculty improvement and Research Reward by UGC. Prof. Tandon also delivered various useful tips for upgrading teachers career prospects. Session 2 Emerging Trends in Books Writing A highly informative session by an eminent personality of International Marketing area - Dr. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Professor & Chairperson, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi. Sir has published various books and cases on International Marketing. He is recipient of Gold Medal of Jaipur Executive Masters in International Trade IIFT. Sir in his highly enriching session elucidated the participants with the various important tools and points to write a excellent book The enthusiastic participants raised various queries at the end of the session that were answered very impressively by the speaker.
Session 3 Contemporary Issues in Case Writing Dr. Rakesh Mohan Joshi in his second session elucidated the faculty members about the various important aspects of case writing and various tools for writing a case. He stressed the case should have an interesting ‘hook’ to hold reader’s attention and it should also take up a dilemma and stimulates debates, arguments and active participation for effective case writing. Sir used the case of “Darjeeling Tea: Global Infringement and WTO” to reinforce the concept of case writing. |

Session 1 & 2 Consultancy Opportunities and Challenges in Rajasthan Mr. Arvind Kalia, National Director, Rajasthan Patrika a well-known personality in Marketing Management area – has a vast experience of teaching and had completed an advance Management Programme from Kellogg’s School of Business, Chicago. Sir initiated the session by briefing about Consultancy opportunities and challenges in Rajasthan . Mr. Kalia elucidated the faculty members with the significant solutions for clients in consultancy like Coffee Table Solutions, Creative Solutions. Sir in his session also elaborated the diverse working style of renowned consultancy firms like Mc Kinsey. Ernst & Young and Tata consultancy services. He also administered the various real corporate examples to explain the prerequisites for seeking consultancy to participants.
Sir also intimated the faculty members on how to generate consultancy in Rajasthan. His simple yet motivating ideas were well presented and thought provoking. Session3 Case Study Presentation on “Drug Pricing in International Markets” The second case study which was administered by Mr. R.M. Joshi in his session was presented and discussed by the participants. |

Session 1 Session 2 A management game was conducted for comprehending Time Management techniques, pros and cons of adopted methodology and a post exercise to drive home the idea. Session 3 A power point presentation was delivered by all the participants on the merger of “Tata and Corus, Steel” a discussion on then strategic implications involved in the tie up concluded the session.

Session 1 A brainstorming session was conducted on “Challenges and Opportunities in the retailing industry” enthusiastic participation by one and all made the session intresting and enriching.
Session2 Prevalent Management System Mr. Amit Lunia, Head of Department, Production Engineering, and Government Ramachandran Khaitan Polytechnic College presided the above session. Sir with his vast experience of system implementation in over 100 reputed industries including Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher, BHEL, etc. Sir is a renowned personality in the field of quality systems, environmental safety and information system. Mr. Amit Lunia in his session on “Prevalent Management System” elucidated the significance of various quality management systems like Y 14001, OHSA 18001, and SA 8000. Session 3 Quality Management System In the second session Mr. Lunia enlightened the audience with numerous Quality Management Systems and quality certification marks. Sir in his highly informative session briefed all participants with the requirements for management of quality, like quality manuals, control of documents, and control of records. He also elaborated on the standards for ISO 9000, ISO 9001-2000 etc. The session, concluded with Mr. Amit, effectively handling the queries raised by the inquisitive participants. |

Session 1 “Changing Dimensions of Knowledge and Learning.” A renowned academician in the management education arena, Mr. H. C. Chopra was the speaker in the first session today. Sir, initiated the session by defining ‘Teaching’ as “transformation of knowledge in to learning”. He described attitude of a teacher towards pupils, scholastic ability and social background of the pupils and difference in their mental levels as the governing variables of a class room environment. Quoting real life experience he summarized faculty, placements and scholastic achievement of the students as the main criteria while evaluating the academic standards of an educational institution. Sir concluded his enriching talk highlighting knowledge of the subject, communication skills and interpersonal communication with students and language comprehension as the ideal characteristics of a good teacher. Session 2 “Curriculum And Course Preparation For Better Learning Environment” Dr. Somdev, Professor, EAFM Department, University of Rajasthan is a renowned personality in the field of finance and accounting. His meaningful and enriching classes on economic environment and Investment Management are appreciated and attended by enthusiastic students. In today's purposeful session he acquainted the audience with the happenings in the Stock market and real estate. He also highlighted the concept of "Repo" and "Reverse Repo" and appreciation of Rupee currency vis – a- vis US Dollar. He recommended a thought provoking constructive suggestion wherein, he mentioned in order to grow private institutions should go in for tie ups with specific industry sectors like insurance, telecommunications and banking and train students as per the requirements of these industries to facilitate their placements. He also shared concerns on the rising employee attrition in major industries. He effectively handled the queries raised by the inquisitive participants on fluctuating gold prices, share prices and oil prices. |

Session 1 Cyber Crime Prevention Mr. Madhusudan Bohra is serving as Joint Director, Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India. He has been associated with ETDC of Jaipur in Calibration of Electrical and Electronics items and Testing of Electrical and Electronics items as per National and International standards. In today’s intresting session Mr. Bohra focused on various categories of never heard before cyber crimes like Email Bombing, Email Spoofing, Dala Diddling, Salami attack, Internet line thefts, Web Jacking, Trojan Attack etc. with recent example of cyber crimes in India and USA. Sir also elucidated various legal forms of protection. Session 2 Sir initiated his second session by elaborating audience about 5P’s as online mantra for security –“Precaution, Prevention, Protection, Preservation, and Perseverance”. He also briefed about the various computer related laws for data protection and privacy act. Mr. Bohra also delivered various useful tips for protecting data on net. At the same time, Sir mentioned that 100% security on net is virtually impossible for all organizations so one has to be very cautious. Mr. Bohra also had an out-of-the-box suggestion for data protection wherein, he mentioned that all organizations must strive for keeping employees satisfied because a disgruntled employee can cause great harm by way of data manipulation. Session 3 Challenges and Opportunities in Foss Dr. M.S. Gaur, Professor, MNIT in his highly enriching session briefed the audience about the emerging information technology like hype cycle, parallelisms in micro processing etc. He also briefed about impact of technology on research and development and education environment. Sir effectively handled the queries raised by the inquisitive participants on challenges in Foss- Free Open Source Software and way to overcome them. |

Session 1Motivation of Teacher’s and Student Prof. Ramesh Arora, Director, Management Development Academy in his highly motivating and self-analysing session he administered FIRO B- Fundamental, Interpersonal, Relation orientation questionnaire designed by William Schutz. Sir, with the help of FIRO B questionnaire helped the participants in evaluating themselves on three parameters- Inclusion (Social Need), Control (Power Need) and Affection (Love Need). Mr. Arora concluded the session on, mesmerizing note and urged the faculty members to contribute meaningful and intellectually to the academic environment of Jaipur by writing a purposeful book. Sir also inspired the faculty to grow by focusing on extension of further research on their topic of doctorate thesis. Session 2

Session 1&2 Changing Face of Professional Education Dr. Rajesh Kothari, Dean & Director, R.A. Podar Institute of Management, Jaipur in his highly inspiring session on changing face of professional education mentioned further corporatisation of educational Institutes with big name Reliance, NIRMA which are already operative in this field. Sir also encouraged the participants to grow by constantly upgrading their knowledge according to the requirement of market. He intimated the faculty members about Mushrooming Growth of institutions and Consolidation of best ones as different phases of changing education environment in today’s competitive scenario. Sir also stressed that in order to entice students Institution will have to focus on ambience and branding. Mr. Kothari ended the session on a thought provoking note “every crisis is an opportunity” so one must make the best use out it.
Valediction The two week long learning programme for faculty members from all over India was concluded by effective feedback by the participants and distribution of certificates. The entire group of faculty members found it to be a memorable and value addition experience. All of them urged to organise such meaningful Faculty Development Programmes in future as well. The programme was well appreciated both in terms of Intellectual and qualities content. The programme accomplished its objectives well and was a grand success. |
