International School of
Informatics & Management (IIIM), Jaipur organized a one day workshop on
“Success Mantras to Excel in the Contemporary Environment”. The resource
persons, who addressed the participants, were Prof. Sujit K. Basu,
Director, MDI, Gurgaon, Mr. Atul Tripathi, Head, Godrej Locks
Division, New Delhi and Mr. Sharad Kumar, Head, Hero Mind Mine.
It was attended by faculty
members and students of Management Institutes in Jaipur.
The workshop comprised two
technical sessions. In technical session one, Prof. Sujit K. Basu
elaborated upon two very relevant concepts: Business Environment and
Randomized Response Technique.
He familiarized the
students with the prevailing business scenario. He touched upon various
issues pertinent to the Indian businesses, the education system,
intrinsic issues of development and growth in our country etc. With
regard to the education system in Management Institutes, he shared his
concern regarding the implementational aspects. With his words, he drew a
very interesting picture of corporate India in terms of Business
Environment.
He also introduced the
students to a new statistical technique called Randomized Response
Technique, which is used for data collection. Often there are some issues
for which this technique is used in order to get reliable data and also
to protect the privacy of the respondents. He presented various
mathematical derivations and formula related to probability, to further
clarify the concept.
In second technical
session, Mr. Atul Tripathi acquainted the students with the art of
‘NEGOTIATION’. Negotiation is an art and science of reaching to a
constructive point in which both parties are in win-win situation. He
explained negotiation from a seller’s point of view. He also discussed 4
Fs and 4 Ps of Negotiation viz Free, Fearless, Frank & Fair and Plan,
Prepare, Practice & Present. Further he emphasized on ‘Preparation’, as a
basic foundation of an effective negotiator. He advised the participants
to prepare a planner for negotiating activities. He also emphasized the
importance of body language in negotiation and some psychological
concepts like NLP, study of conscious, sub-conscious and unconscious
mind.
Mr. Sharad Kumar shared his
views on the effective communication skills and ways and means to develop
them. |

About the speakers
Dr.
Sujit K. Basu, Director, Management Development Institute (MDI)¸ Gurgaon.
Dr. Sujit K. Basu is currently the Director of Management Development
Institute (MDI)¸ Gurgaon.
Before joining MDI¸ he was the Vice-Chancellor of Visva-Bharati¸ a
Central University at Santiniketan for five years. Dr. Basu has been the
founder Director of the Army’s National Institute of Management¸ Kolkata.
Earlier he has been a Professor at the Indian Institute of Management,
Calcutta. He has also taught at Universities in Canada¸ Japan and USA as
a Visiting Professor.
He has edited a number of volumes in statistics and was a Co-editor of
the prestigious Indian journal of statistics SANKHYA. Besides¸ he has
published articles both in Bengali and English on Tagore¸ his thoughts
and philosophy and other contemporary topics.
He is a statistician of international repute and has contributed
extensively to the development of knowledge specially in the area of
mathematical statistics. He is well known for his research in
probability theory¸ statistical inference¸ reliability theory and
inventory control. He has published extensively in top national and
international journals. His research has taken him to countries like
USA¸ Canada¸ China¸ Japan¸ Taiwan¸ Iran¸ Korea and a few other countries
where he has taught and lectured in seminars and conferences. At the
national level¸ he is/was associated with the Operational Research
Society of India¸ Calcutta Statistical Association¸ Indian Society for
Productivity¸ Quality and Reliability¸ Indian Science Congress
Association¸ Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta Board of
Governors¸ Indian Institute of Technology¸ Kharagpur Senate¸ Raja Ram
Mohan Roy Library Foundation¸ NCERT¸ Indian Statistical Institute
Council¸ Distance Education Council (DEC) of India¸ India-China Eminent
Persons Group etc. in various capacities. He has been a Consultant to
the Government on a number of projects and chaired NAAC and DEC Peer
Team Meetings.
Mr.
Atul Tripathi, Head, Godrej (Locks Division)
He began his
professional life in the Pharma Industry and has been associated with an
interesting variety of industries in the past twenty years.
He has dealt with a
wide variety of products including moulded luggage, photocopier,
industrial rubber products and automotive tyres before joining GODREJ
(Locks Division) in May 1999.
He has been honoured
with major awards in Channel Management, Counterfiet Management and
People Development. He is a certified ISO Auditor. He is also one of the
assessors for CII Excellence Award. |
