6000 VOICES SWELL WITH PRIDE IN THE RECITATION OF VANDE MATARAM

The IIS Institutional network joined 6000 plus resounding voices of the various representative members of the student fraternities, faculties, staff and workers of it’s 8 educational organizations – The International College for Girls, The India International School, The International Institute of Informatics and Management, The Play House, The Centre for Information Technology, Gurukul, and the ICG Institute of Eductional Research and Development in reverence of the centenary of our National Song – VANDE MATARAM

At exactly 11 a.m. on the 7th of September, 2006, the IIS lawns came alive with the strains of Vande Mataram as throbbing voices full of joyful pride sang the composition of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee a hundred years after they were first recited.

On the occasion, Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director IIS Institutional Network addressed the IIS family gathering, presenting a tribute of honour to the national song and it’s composer and familiarized the assembly with the meaning of VANDE MATARAM. Calling the composition a “sutra” (string) that binds all those who are Indian and amalgamates all that which symbolizes the essence of being Indian, he said that Vande Mataram is more than a song, it is a spirit and an emotion that unites the nation discarding all boundations and categories of creed, colour, religion and community.

As far as the eye could see, the horizon merged with bright-eyed faces standing in unison, bound together by a common patriotic fervour. The entire programme was a sight for sore eyes in today’s times fraught with communal tensions and terrorist terror.

The programme was also aired live on the IIS Institutional Network’s community radio channel – FM 7 at 90.4 MegaHertz
