CONFERENCE ON COMMON CORE CURRICULUM IN COMMERCE STREAM FOR GRADE XI AND XIII

 

A conference on Common Core Curriculum Syllabi for classes XI and XII was held on 27 July, 2010 at India International School, Jaipur. It was organized by the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan, Ajmer. Dr. B.P. Singh presented the key note address. He referred to education as service, globalization as strategy to achieve experiential learning. He exposed the delegates to the international scenario regarding age; literacy and business development highlighting the situation as first population of children below 15 years of age and stressed that a lot of effort has to be made to achieve Universalisation of Secondary Education. He spoke about the challenges in terms of accessibility, equality and quality highlighting gender, socio-economical and diversity of population in India. This needs to be addressed empowering the educational system financially, decentralizing the powers and examination reform using ICT for curriculum transaction. He focused that this meeting would address curriculum as product of quality, product line, product features, product style and product design.

          Dr. P.C. Vyas, Consultant and Former President, COBSE spoke about business ethics and national values as Industrialization, Global Warming and Environmental changes that are creating new social tensions in development. He expected that this group of board, subject experts and the field players will bring out a curriculum to create business managers for sustainable development and protection of environment for future society. The spirit of commerce should be able to produce enlightened and economically liberated citizens. He coined the new acronym (BCD) for Business Commerce Development to focus proactive actions leading to vocalization, modernization, knowledge and skills.

The President of COBSE and Chairman CBSE, Shri Vineet Joshi ji, while proposing his vote of thanks lauded the task undertaken for Common Syllabi in Science and Mathematics and now in Commerce stream. He further emphasized the changing social dynamics and employability of the young, and providing a common playing field which will be the first step to meet the demands of the students. This will contribute to the development of the national economic scenario and could be addressed by updating the content from time to time. He advocated that evaluation plays an important role if the question design and process of evaluation is made common.
