IIS REPRESENTS INDIA AT THE SAARC ROUND OF THE INTERSCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION AT COLOMBO SRI LANKA |

IIS, the proud winner of the National Round of the 12th Dr Mahbub ul Haq Memorial Inter- School Debate Competition, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme, at Delhi, will now be representing India in the SAARC round to be held in Colombo- Sri Lanka on 17 December 2009. The IIS team comprising Aarti Bhalla and Shreya Deora, both from class 11, had beaten 14 teams from different states in India in the National Round , held in Delhi on 21 October 2009 The debators were adjudged by a panel of eminent judges that included Ms Anuradha Raman-Asstt Editor ‘Outlook’ , Mr Felix E Badji- Ambassador Gambia , Ms Surekha Subarwal – representative UNDP and Mr PS Bawa-Trustee,Transparency International India.The topic of the debate was ‘Corruption puts the brakes on development and women suffer the consequences’. The Chief Guest, Mr Veerappa Moily, the Union Minister for Law and Justice, gave away the awards to the winners. The IIS team will now compete against seven teams from the seven other members of the SAARC countries, in Sri Lanka .The topic of the debate is ‘ Migration liberates women, they earn more , learn more and are empowered.’ |
