Workshop on Personal Effectiveness

A week long workshop on personal effectiveness commenced on September 26, 2005 at IIIM. The main objective of the workshop is to  groom the management students to be better prepared for the soon to commence placement season. It also aims to equip the  future managers to take on the challenging tasks of managing men, finances, operations, sales and marketing.

In the inaugural session, the experts and trainers were welcomed by Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director, IIIM. Dr. Gupta expressed confidence that the programme would benefit the MBA final year students by broadening their vision of the corporate world and would help them enhance their personal effectiveness.

Mr. Hemant Gupta, an alumnus of IIT, Kanpur, IT expert & ex CEO, VGL Softech, Mr. Hemant Anand, Management Expert & Trainer and Mr. Neeraj Gupta, renowned architect and urban planner, currently Director, Global Institute of Technology, Jaipur conducted the sessions on 26th September 2005.

In the first session, Mr. Hemant Gupta discussed the expectations of the corporate world from management graduates. Mr. Gupta said that discipline, hard work, etiquettes and right attitude are amongst the primary  attributes judged by the corporates  in the recruitment process.

 Mr. Neeraj Gupta, in the next session, helped the participants understand dimensions of success. Success, he said, carries different meanings for different individuals and one must identify one's parameters of success and set goals accordingly.

In the last session, Mr. Hemant Anand took up issues in personal and managerial effectiveness. He discussed the attributes of effective performance and gave impressive tips on performance enhancement.

The participants found the sessions highly enriching and were appreciative of the content and techniques of instruction followed in the workshop.

Day 2 Prof. Hemant Anand guided the participants on preparations for placement interviews. They were also given tips on ways of preparing effective resumes and cover letters.
In the post lunch sessions, Dr. Anil Kalia, President, Child Survival India, and communications expert, New Delhi, discussed and demonstrated issues involved in effective communication for public presentations and other interpersonal interactions. He highlighted the importance of non verbal communication by citing real life examples.
On day 3, in the first session, Brig. Dr. S. K. Puri, VSM (Retd.), Dean, management studies, IIHMR, Jaipur acquainted the student participants with Business Etiquettes and mannerisens for formal interaction. He made them aware of the need for an understanding of global culture and way of life to be able to interact effectively.
In the following session, Prof. Neeraj Gupta in his impressive style, dealt with 'Time Management'. He provided the students with valuable inputs on management of time through some effective exercises.
In the later half of the day, interview & presentations skills of the participants were tested by conducting a brief interview of each candidate and then feedback was provided to them so that they could evaluate their performance & identify their strengths & weaknesses.
On the fourth day of the programme, Prof. Neeraj Gupta spoke on 'Motivating self and developing a positive attitude'. After this session, the participants could explain ways for self motivation and building an affirmative viewpoint.
The second session on day four was on 'Business relations' wherein Mr. Pradeep Mehra, Head, customer relations, Hutch, Jaipur stressed that to ensure good business relations, one must treat others with respect irrespective of their financial and official status.
On the last day of the workshop, Prof. Neeraj Gupta described individual strategies for managing stress so as to be more effective in personal and work life. He also gave an account of the techniques for managing self directed learning for continuous growth.
The last session had the facilitators, Prof. Neeraj Gupta and Prof. Hemant Anand guide the participants in preparing an action plan for personal growth, through their Six - Step model.
The workshop concluded with the giving away of certificates to all participants. Special participation awards were given to four participants in two categories:

Participants found the training programme very beneficial and felt that they had gained  clarity about success and life goals.
