'PARICHAYA' MCA Orientation 2005

The Information Technology (IT) sector being amongst the fastest growing in the country, all related professional degrees are coveted and popular amongst the students. The MCA programme at IIIM received tremendous response as always, with meritorious students opting to pursue the degree. The programme is specifically designed to hone the skills of graduates from different streams to enable them to handle the most intricate of programming and software development work.

Keeping in view the varied background of the MCA aspirants, India International Institute of Management has organized an Orientation Workshop ‘Parichaya‘ for the fresh batch of the MCA students from
3rd August 2005 through 9th August 2005. During this week-long workshop participants will be familiarized with different aspects of IT education. The students will be provided an opportunity to interact with experts from different fields to understand the latest IT trends and concepts in the field of IT and related aspects like placements.

The second day of ‘Parichaya 2005’ began with an interactive session by the Dr. Kavaldeep Dixit, Chief Coordinator, IIIM.  She briefed the freshers about the traditional values being followed in the institute. She entertained a host of queries by the freshers regarding the institution and the facilities offered.

This was followed by a session on ‘MBA - Academic Inputs' by Dr. Harsh Dwivedi, Associate Professor, Poddar Institute of Management, University of Rajasthan wherein he threw light on characteristics of a good manager. Dr. Dwivedi also highlighted the role of academics in inculcating managerial skills in the students. His was an impressive presentation that included graphs and charts to depict the concepts that he put across. At the end of the session the students were motivated and satisfied of their choice of Management as a career.

In the placement orientation, GP Manoj Kumar, Head, Placements, IIIM held an interactive session. Mr. Kumar emphasized the need of life skills in today’s corporate set-up and shared his experiences from the air-force to motivate the students to lead a disciplined routine and also enjoy life as it comes. The placement head also discussed the current placement scenario and the scope for the future managers in business world.

The third day commenced with a lecture of 'Finance Orientation' by Dr. Somdev. The students were familiarized with the basic concepts and ideas pertaining to financial management. This was followed by an address on ‘Business skills’ by Mr. Hemant Anand.

The day ended with an enriching speech by Dr. P. N. Mishra, Dean, Devi Ahilya University, Indore. Prof. Mishra laid emphasis on the necessity of understanding and practicing of ethos and values in contemporary organizations.

The fourth day comprised an orientation on HRM by Ms. Manju Nair. She discussed the significance, development and utilization of the most valuable resource – the human resource, of any organization.

The highlight of the day was an enlightening address by Shri M.N. Verma, Chief Commissioner Income Tax, Rajasthan. Enlightening the audience on “Tax Administration-Changing Scenario”, Shri. Verma aquainted the future taxpayers with the steps taken by the tax department  to make  things convenient for the taxpayers.

On day five, Dr. Kavaldeep Dixit discussed the success mantras of popular brands and their marketing strategies, while delivering a lecture on ‘Marketing Orientation’. Shri N. K. Jain thereafter suggested how the knowledge of English can provide a cutting edge to the future managers.

Mr. Mohit Arolkar, Manager, Philips India, spoke on the scope in the durable goods sector. He advised the management students to keep themselves abreast of the changing scene in the market. ‘Invention and innovation are the keys to success’, he said.

On the concluding day of Parichaya 2005, Cdr. Kulhari oriented the students about the IT world which was followed by a lecture by Shri. Sanjay Singh Rajawat, Cluster Head, IDBI, Rajasthan. Mr. Rajawat acquainted the MBA aspirants with the industry’s expectations from a management graduate.

Success abilities was the topic of discussion for the last session of the week-long programme. Ms. Richa Thakur gave some success mantras to the students in this final session of Parichaya 2005.
