National Seminar on Global Competitiveness


India International Institute of Management, Mansarovar, Jaipur organized a National Seminar on ‘Global Competitiveness : Critical Success factors for Indian Industry’ on Thursday, 25 October, 2005 at IIIM Auditorium, Sector 12, Mahaveer Marg, Mansarovar, Jaipur. Dr. Digambar Singh, Minister for Medical, Health and Ayurveda, Rajasthan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He said that it is the need of the hour to indicate a debate on the challenges the Indian Industry faces while seeking the challenge of competing with the big players in the global market. The most important factor that can play a vital role in making corporate India a leader from the global perspective would be innovative thinking of the future managers. Director Dr. Ashok Gupta welcomed the guests.
Mr. Dilip Baid, Convener Northern Region, Handicrafts Industry expressed that there is a need to compete with China globally in terms of innovativeness and nationality to make corporate India a leader from the global perspective.
In the first technical session,  Dr. Arun Kumar Jain, Professor IIM, Lucknow said that the turnover of companies like Wal-Mart is exceeding the GDP of other nations. In order to compete with these organizations we have to develop some strategies for our development.

According to Mr. Charan Rawat, Associate Director Barclays Bank PLC the world’s top most companies are making profits by breaking the rules to win this global competitive race. According to him the companies should follow ethical & legal norms to succeed in a long run. Mr. Umesh Agarwal, Dy. G.M., TCI, Gurgaon handled the topic that how in a supply chain we can add value, and how these value added chains can be beneficial to the business.

Mr. C.M. Khurana focussed on the excellence in business operations – Business process reengineering. Mr. Gaurav Mehta, Director, Brand DNA threw light on the importance of having a good product as well as good customer relations to win this globally competitive era.

In the second technical session Dr. Justin Paul , Professor, IIM Indore focussed on the aspect that India is equally competitive as other global players in textile sector. This sector can be helpful in earning more and more foreign currencies. Ms. Vidya Kane, TCS stressed that India has a good name in IT sector and we can take advantage of this in all other sectors. Mr. Hemant Anand, Director, Vantage Consultancy said that if there is any sector after IT which can make corporate India a leader from the global perspective, than that is pharmaceutical sector.

This seminar was equally beneficial to the budding managers, business analysts, consultants, academicians, corporates, to develop agenda for themselves and their organizations.
