National Seminar on “Reflective and Explorative Trends in Education” March 31, 2011
 

A one-day National Seminar on “Reflective and Explorative Trends in Education” was organized by ICG Institute of Educational Research and Development, Jaipur. 

Session I : Inaugural  

The inaugural session of the seminar began with lighting the lamp to seek the blessings of the almighty after which Dr. Ashok Gupta, Director, IIERD extended a floral welcome to the chairperson of the session. Dr. Sahana Murthy, Asst. Professor, IIT Bombay and Dr. Sunil Khurana, Principal, IIERD extended floral greetings to the keynote speaker of the inaugural session, Prof. P.D. Sharma, Retd. Professor, University of Rajasthan. 

Dr. Ashok Gupta formally welcomed all the guests and delegates. In his welcome address he stressed that the teaching fraternity of 21st Century needs to be equipped with the latest developments taking place in the field of education for teaching. 

After the welcome address the chairperson introduced the keynote speaker Prof. P.D. Sharma who spoke on the topic “Crisis in Teacher Education”. He emphasized that teaching is a big responsibility, so a teacher needs to be a learner throughout his life and also needs to disassociate himself from “Money and Power” 

This was followed by a formal Vote of Thanks extended by Dr. Sunil Khurana, Principal, IIERD. 

The inaugural session concluded with a short break for tea. 

Session II : Technical  

The technical session was chaired by Prof. Rita Arora, Head, Dept. of Education, University of Rajasthan. 

The first invited lecture was given by Dr. Sahana Murthy and the topic for discussion was “Education Technology : The what, the why and some of the how”. Her lecture was interactive in nature. She emphasized on the integration of Education Technology with the application of methods, strategies and tools that facilitate teaching –learning process.

Prof. Satish Batra, Principal, Bhawan’s College of Communication and Management gave the second invited lecture of the session on the topic “Personal and Professional Excellence”. He quoted the words of Dr. Radhakrishnan, “What you are is more important than what you have and what you look like”. He emphasized that a successful person needs to have a Clear mission and purpose in life. 

This session was followed by a group photograph of all the guests and delegates, after which lunch was served. 

Session III : Panel Discussion  

“Curriculum Enhancement in Teacher Training Programmes” was the theme of the session for panel discussion. The session was chaired by Prof. Madhu Mathur, Dean, Faculty of Education, Banasthali Vidyapeeth. 

Panelists of the session were Prof. Rajni Sharma, Dr. Vijaya Laxmi, Dr. Yadu Sharma, Dr. Abida Parveen and Dr. Nandini Gupta. 

The panelists stressed that there should be changes in curriculum according to the need of the students and society. Both teacher-trainees and the teacher-educators need to be well equipped with all the latest changes and technological developments. 

Session IV : Oral Presentations  

The session was chaired by Prof. Ashok Sharma, Principal, Shri Agrasen PG College of Education (CTE), Jamdoli. The Co-chairperson for the session was Prof. Radha Rani Saxena, Dean, School of Education, Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur. 

This session saw oral presentation by about 26 enthusiastic participants on the key thrust areas of theme of the seminar “Reflective and Explorative Trends in Education”. 

Session V : Valedictory  

The concluding session was chaired by Prof. Mathureshwar Pareek, Dept. of Education, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. 

The seminar report was read by Ms. Shashi Yadav, Asst. Professor, IIERD. 

The Chairperson, Prof. M. Pareek in his speech examined the need to keep abreast of the changes in the field of education. The seminar concluded with the votes of thanks extended by Mr. Sanjay Kedia, Asst. Principal, IIERD.
