The Department of Political Science organized a guest lecture by Prof. Satish Kumar, Prof., Department of Political Science, Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi on the 2nd of August, 2007. The topic of the lecture was ‘Secularism in India’. 

The lecture dealt with the rise and growth of Communalism in India and the subsequent efforts of the leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to calm the situation and establish secular tradition in India, supplemented by a desire for tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Prof. Satish Kumar elucidated on the commitment of the Constituent Assembly towards establishing a Secular State. He also talked about the Right to Freedom of Religion as enunciated in the Constitution of India. 

All the students of the department, Pass Course and Honours were among the beneficiaries. The students found the talk enriching.
