Guest Lecture in Biotechnology

A Guest Lecture by Ms. Sunita Chauhan was organized by the Department of Biotechnology on the 29th of September, 2007 in the AV Hall. Ms. Chauhan talked on Lingocellulose Biotechnology. Ms. Sunita Chauhan introduced the students to the structure of lingocellulose which is a major component of biomass. She focused on the structures of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. She also expressed ideas on degradation and the micro-organisms involved in degradation. Ms. Chauhan also talked about white rot fungi which are the only micro-organism capable of degrading lignin at its own in nature. The applications of lingocellulose biotechnology were also discussed. The Post Graduate students of the Departments of Biotechnology and Environmental Science were among the beneficiaries of the activity.
