Human Rights: Indian Perspective

 

The Department of Social Sciences and the NSS Units of ICG organized a Guest Lecture by Justice N.K. Jain, Chairperson, Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission, on 4 September, 2008 in the AV Hall. The topic of the lecture was, “Human Rights: Indian Perspective”. Justice Jain talked at length about the relevance of Human Rights, their implementation in India and the causes for their violations. He said that the lack of awareness about Human Rights was one of the shortcomings of the Indian society and it is thus the duty of the youth to generate awareness about these rights. He cited the reasons as well as examples of violation of these basic rights. Justice Jain also explained the functions and working of the State Human rights Commission.  The talk concluded with a question answer session between the students and Justice Jain. All the students of the Department of Social Sciences and the NSS Volunteers were the beneficiaries of the lecture. They found the talk an enriching activity.
