A lecture by Prof. G.C. Sharma was organized by the Department of Mathematics on the 7th of August, 2007. Prof. G.C. Sharma is currently the advisor to the University of Agra. He retired as Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Agra. He has more than 150 research papers published in National and International journals to his credit. Besides he has guided 56 Doctoral Researches. Prof. Sharma has been a visiting Professor in various Universities in USA, UK, Canada Germany, Belgium, France and Netherlands. He is presently conducting a collaborative research with members from India, Italy, UK, and USA on ‘Mathematical Modeling of HIV, Cancer & Malaria’.

The Topic of the lecture was ‘Game Theory’. The theory of games aids managerial decision making in a comprehensive environment. It is a part of operations research.  Before coming to  the topic he  explained  what  is  operation    research , why  do we  study it and  why   its  need    has   been   felt   by   the industry . Further he explained when a competitive situation is called ‘Game’ .After producing conceptual framework on games he defined Games with saddle point by using Minimax and Maxmin  Principle, pure and mixed strategies, games without saddle point, dominance etc. The lecture was interactive and laid interest in students to learn more in operations research.
