“Female Foeticide & Declining Child Sex-Ratio: Causes and Consequences”

 

The Department of Economics organized a Guest Lecture on the 11th of October. 2007 on the topic, “Female Foeticide & Declining Child Sex-Ratio: Causes and Consequences”. The Speaker was Prof. Neelambar Hatti, Professor of Economic History, Lund University, Sweden. A Professor of repute, Prof. Hatti has a large number of research papers and publications to his credit. His present field of research interest includes Demography, Gender Issues, disappearing Girls in India, declining Sex-Ratio and Female Foeticide in the rural and urban areas. 

The Speaker highlighted the fact that modernization, rather than favorably affecting the status of women in the society has in fact lead to the phenomenon of female foeticide and declining sex-ratio. 

The students of the Department were highly benefited by the insight and extensive research of the Speaker on the issue of declining numbers of females in India.
