The Department of Biotechnology organized a Guest Lecture by Prof. B.N. Johri, an eminent scientist of international fame on the 1st of August, 2007. He is Emeritus Professor Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Former Head, Dept. of Biotechnology, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture. Pantnagar, Uttranchal. The topic of the lecture was ‘Below Ground Biodiversity’.

The lecture highlighted the richness of microbial communities in the rhizosphere and the importance it has in affecting above ground biodiversity. The microflora below the ground has a great influence on soil fertility and therefore plant growth. He cited several examples depicting the latest discoveries in the field.

The lecture was attended and highly appreciated by the students of the Departments of Biotechnology, Foods & Nutrition and Environmental Sciences.
